Trailcam tales

Things are hopping here. Our local issue caught the eye of the press. This is Amy Millar. I'm not sure what good the article will do, but that is just me.

In the meantime, we explore the forest.

Red squirrel and Blue Jay have eaten all the pumpkin seeds.

The turkeys trot by.

As do the coyotes!

Your issue with the shooting range has some good publicity. I sure hope it helps. Yum, pumkin seeds!

Thos beautiful bushy tails, guess they are all into what we call " Winter Coats ", and pumpkin seeds, that must be so tasty.

I heard Amy Millar on the radio this morning around 7 am. It is hard to tell if the publicity will help or hinder.

To Stu Mills
We don't feel that expanding the media coverage on this local issue will help our case. It could divide the community, arouse unwarranted reaction from gun proponents and stop what we see as a peaceful resolution to this problem. /J

"Jennifer, That's fine. I'll be filing on this story either way. Let me know if you want to shape the conversation."

Dear Stu,
Please don't. This is a noise and environmental issue. It is not related to guns or gun owners, or new arrivals. Within the opposition to this gun range are a number of people who in fact hunt, own or have owned guns, including ourselves. As well, in opposition are families who have been here on farms for up to 150 years, including some of the largest farms in the area. Please do not give the impression that this is some sort of new urban vs old rural conflict. It is a concern by people for the welfare of themselves and their animals. Ian Millar has some valuable horses affected by this noise. We are concerned about the impact of this noise on our property values as we'd have to report this gun range to potential buyers.
People have cottaged here for many years, there are renters and guests on the lake negatively affected by this noise. The prior use of this gun range by the OPP was for a limited number of hours over an average of 35 days. The proposal would allow this noise over 365 days is just one example of the increased escalation of use.
Thank you. /J

I always love seeing wild turkeys. They are always so unexpected.

I hope the noise issue is resolved soon. Sounds like the press may not have helped this time.

I haven't seen a wild turkey since I lived in MO. They are everywhere in the woods in the northern part of the state. Kansas, too. Enjoyed this cam video.

We used to leave our pumpkins in the backyard when we lived in Illinois. The critters did love them.

You need all the opposition you can get, and probably the higher profile, the better!
