Flora and fauna

Bye birdies. Junior Bear won't let me watch you anymore!
We've had a pair of finches and grosbeaks.

Fungus, who eats this stuff?!

I was out in the garden. A swallowtail was flying by and landed on the lilacs. I so love that bush.

I looked up... and lo, and behold!

This golden bug was quite interesting. I have to look it up.

The bleeding hearts are so beautiful. A hummingbird buzzed me as I looked at them.

4. Patio season

Following the cemetery (1) trip, we drove down Chesterville to Long Sault(2), where we had lunch (3).

The gull was quite curious, and NO, we did not feed it. You risk it pooping if you do!

Things are hopping

The lilacs are in full blossom!

For those who like action! S/he checked out the shed, then went on its way.

Daisy rests under the day lily and bleeding hearts.

Red-eyed vireo in the trees. Look up, look way up! Their song sounds like a conversation:
"How are you? I am fine. Where to now?"  This one I found a few years ago. Fun to see the red eyes.

A cat was with me on this forest trip. You can hear him on the video. I think it was Hooper. They get upset when I stop to watch the birds! "Let's go! Let's go!"

In the meantime, Hooper has a friend in the back yard.

3. Lunchtime in Long Sault!

Following the cemetery (1) trip, we drove down Chesterville to Long Sault(2) we were ready for lunch. A beautiful spot for a springtime lunch. There were birds, and wind, and boats! This is a lovely little restaurant, Nautilus, they were crazy busy and everyone seemed to know one another. There was a Canada Goose, I think nesting one the old dock, as well as a pair of mallards sleeping. An osprey flew by with a fish in its talons. Our server was a cutie pie, and explained they were crazy busy and it'd be awhile. We didn't mind, it wasn't difficult sitting there in the sunshine, chatting, and watching the birds.

2. Chesterville to Long Sault

After we checked out the cemetery (1), we were headed to the restaurant for lunch. (This was Monday, May 20th.)

ALong the way, we spotted this interesting scene. It must be a snowmobile, or ATV trail, or somesuch. There are bridges across the ditch. The two manikins caught my eye. JB turned around and we went back. We were in no rush.

The sun was glorious. The dandelions lovely, trees in blossom! People have been out picking up garbage from ditches to make it beautiful.

Lots of motorcycles on the weekend! Many gathered around them, discussing their features.

Check out the face on the one guy! It was meant to look like a skull.
