Thursday, I saw my first pair of phoebes, while outside surveying the damage! Also, a red-bellied woodpecker on the feeder. This is good news. By 11 a.m., it was 8 C., and things were melting. By noon, 11 C. The ice shards just fell off the trees, melting and sounding like rain.
I managed to read up to page 400 in my 690-page novel, in the dark, with a reading light!
We're still in a bit of a mess here in Ontario. Quebec has similar issues, they had 1,000,000 without power. Ontario is making progress from the day before.
JL went into work for a shower and to do some work, the school did not have power, and it was closed. Caitlin had the day off, and planned to do some baking for our Easter dinner. Sadly, they didn't have power. They have water, but no hot water! After work, JL picked them all up, and they came here. By then, the people across the street from them had power, but there is not way to tell when theirs would be back up.
They have an electric vehicle, and had to charge for 15 minutes on the way here in Smiths Falls! It was an opportunity for tree climbing! I suggested these two would be good candidates for the Algonquin Arborist program!
JB did a quick shop in town, it was busy in town! I made them some packaged ribs, broccoli and smashed potatoes. Cupcakes were for dessert.
Our marvellous Aussie Tree people will come Saturday for a peek on our latest tree damage. 🌲 Tree clean up, at last! They are a mess, our poor trees. It just breaks my heart. The one out front, with little snow damage, was decimated by the ice rain.

...clean up is an ongoing thing for you!
What a mess. Good luck with it all.
Yes, icy rain is the worst for trees and power lines (under branches of trees.) So many people without power! Yikes. Glad your trees will have attention. Here is a pouring rain day. And after summer temps last week, we return to spring with 40's for daytime and 30's for night.
TG our grocery store was open yesterday. I assume they have a generator. I think the Tims in town is about the only place to go for coffee and they are being run off their feet.

It was some storm - my pals just over the Quebec border are still without power - they do have a genny, so are managing. For now. Have fun family time! YAM xx
I mourn for the trees. I am glad you have power though.
Lovely visit. Thank you
I got an email from Ottawa Hydro indicating 16 000 to be restored.
Here in Brant County we only had rain with the Thunderstorms. Very lucky by the looks of things east of us!
It's sad when we have nice trees and they are damaged.
Happy Easter. The weather doesnt know winter is over
Wow. Just wow. I"m glad you are all OK -- but that's just huge.
What a shame about the trees. I love trees.
It's so hard to lose power. I wish there were better ways to protect resources from weather events.
