This was Plan B!

It's been a time. It was discouraging, just when we had the December damage cleaned up last week [🌲 Tree clean up, at last!]. This was one of the trees they'd tidied up for us. They'd fallen in the summer.

This was during the storm. The eaves were overflowing. I wondered it it was just water that had frozen, but I couldn't find out during the storm.

Apr. 5 rains from Jennifer Jilks on Vimeo.

Sure enough, the temperatures hovered around 0 C. and things began to freeze. The trees began to droop.

Then the trees began to bend and break. Small evergreens or large. The ice shards were awful to see.

The kids came over on Thursday, as their power was out in Ottawa, and I thought they might as well come over. They were planning on coming over on Saturday for a sleepover (Plan A), but I offered sanctuary. Grampa sent Easter cards, which arrived last week. Just before they left Ottawa, the people across the street got power back, but who knew how long it would take for their house?

They packed up, and took what they could out of their fridge. We hadn't finished planning for dinner, and had to revise. After charging up their EV in Smiths Falls, nearly here, they arrived and unpacked.

I'd gone up the ladder, and there was some debris in the eaves on this side of the house, which is why the eaves wasn't draining properly. Mind you, we had 77 mm rain (3") during the storm.  I'd asked for help checking the other corner of the eaves, where it was likely blocked. Most of the blockage was ice, at the time, but there was some debris there. (See the videos below!)

Josephine wanted to go up on the roof, too! She is a good worker.

BTW – Isabelle and I planted these daffodils. The deer don't like them, and are perfect for a touch of colour in spring. They are coming up!

In the afternoon Jesse called for a video visit. It was a hoot. Cluny read some things, there was dancing, Cluny showed us her dictée test, quite proud of her work. Bryony explained that if you had a sibling in French Immersion, you had a better chance of getting a younger sister into the program.

We chatted, Isabelle, Auntie Caitlin, Grampa and myself.

Our Easter dinner on Good Friday! Ham, roasted potatoes, carrots and broccolini.

The bunny cake was quite something! Yay, Grampa who was sent into town with a list.

After dinner, it was time for showers. I found this image from 2010, searching for another photo, and Jos and I reprised it! I use this gown as a housecoat.

We watched 65, with Adam Driver, quite the movie for all! Grampa did some research to find a cross-generational one. The premise is that they go back in time to 65 million years ago. It had flaws, but we were entertained. It was Amazon, and not free, but heck, entertainment for the six of us? Priceless. Cinnamon was especially happy getting mushies from Josephine.

The girls made popcorn!

What wonderful family time together. Yikes on the roof about gutters. Around here houses under trees put a grate of some kind over the gutter so leaves don't get in. Love the bunny cake! Have a Happy Easter...and the week to come!

The ladder and roof work looks dangerous to me. Y'all be careful!

Fun times, making memories of good times in the midst of the problems. Nice!

Happy Easter!
