napowrimo #14: road trip
Road Trip
I love driving in the fall
heater on
windows open
wind flying through the car
me sailing over the land
unbound by inertia
released by the power of the vehicle
sun shine warming our souls
birds soaring on wind shears
brilliant leaves flapping in the breeze
I often drove to work hoping
hoping to forget to get off at my exit
I never did
do I regret it?
yes
I wanted to fly and fly
I remember trips with kids
flying along the highway
trees leaves sparkling lakes flew by
only one ticket
car packed to the roof
3 kids under seat belts
3 bikes on the roof
1 cat in a cage
1 iguana in an aquarium
1 computer (sans cable)
toys & clothes
no room for more
we flew to the cottage
only to jump in the lake
anticipation
froggin'
canoe
the lake
embraced by open arms
and more love than we could imagine
life was good
love was hopeful
dreams were told

I love driving in the fall too, and I know that feeling exactly from the second stanza. Thanks!
