Batten down the hatches, a storm is on its way!

goldfish pond is working,
alewives are moving about!
You know I love my radar information. Hubby watches the weather for us all the time. Especially when we are planning a Daycation trip.
alewives who appeared in my hand-dug pond!
They mated with the goldfish!
This is what is coming. The snow is already falling in Toronto, according to the weather watchers on Twitter.

Winter Storm Warning for: Smiths Falls - Perth - Eastern Lanark County

ISSUED BY ENVIRONMENT CANADA AT 4:46 AM EDT THURSDAY 11 APRIL 2013

Summary
A wintery combination of snow, ice pellets and freezing rain on the way. Colder air is moving into the region and will coincide with an approaching low currently over Illinois. Several centimetres of ice pellets are expected today for regions from Lake Huron towards Lake Ontario and will change to freezing rain later today or tonight. It may very well fall heavy at times. It should taper off by Friday morning with temperatures rising above freezing. Of greater concern is the risk of widespread power outages due to downed tree limbs and power lines from significant ice accumulation combined with northeast winds gusting to 60 km/h. There is a risk that this could be a major ice storm. For regions east of Georgian Bay towards Eastern Ontario including the nation Capital region, snow mixed with ice pellets is expected to begin tonight and continue through much of Friday. The majority of the precipitation should be ice pellets with up to 10 to 15 centimetres expected. Free zing rain is also a threat for these regions, although is not expected to be as widespread as regions farther to the south.

Jay Scotland (CBC Toronto) shows us what he thinks will happen today and tomorrow.
Ice pellets and snow warnings!
I tweeted the photo and suggested we NOT shoot the messenger!
Jay Scotland: Rain, sleet, snow!
You can see how all of our snow was gone and I have the pump going in the pond. The osprey are back, and on their nests. I recall a late snow up in Bala. We wrote a story about Eddie & Eva, as they sat on the end of the dock in the snow.

I think - or hope - allwe get out of this pending storm is more snow. Not that we need any more, but so far the only grass showing is over the septic tank. The rest of the feild still has two feet of the stuff. Enough - its April!!!(Big sigh as I try and get the summer tires out). Anyway, on the positive side - the raccoons are back.

ATB! Rusty
p.s. Almost forgot - momma crow has also returned to her favorite spot.

This sounds nasty. It seems like a whole lot of fronts are meeting and there's probably an inclusion thrown in for fun! Well this won't be fun.
We have 5 to 10 cm of snow forecast for Sat.

Did the alewives just randomly appear or were they introduced? Sounds like an interesting cross fish mating. Have you heard of that before? - Margy

They were down below in the wetland, Margy. They must have been in the soil from the plant I transplanted! The frog pond, though, dries up in summer and isn't connected with the bit part of the wetland which goes down to the creek.

That storm is here now, and totally unnecessary, in my opinion...
