A trip to the city!

We decided to attend the girls' holiday concert. It's only about 80 km away, in Ottawa! We actually had to set an alarm...
Off we went, 7 a.m., in the dark, and -7 C. temperatures. There were lots of lights on, but it was too cold to open the window, and I didn't have the energy to try and figure out camera settings! There were many houses with lights on. It was joyful, in the dark.

You could see a red snake, going up the hill. I'd forgotten about rush hour!

By the time we entered the city of Ottawa,, it was -9 C.! We phoned the kids, saying we made it.
We saved seats for the kids. A lovely young woman helped us fix up JB's hat. She knows Caitlin, another mom who volunteers, and we had a lovely chat waiting for the concert to begin.

Did this ever take me back!

Here we are! The grampa, behind Caitlin, also had a cool hat and t-shirt. JL was contemplating the concert program. Josee helped out with technology, as well!

It is a lovely, multicultural school. The kids worked hard. Izzy danced, Josee played the ukulele.
I don't have permission to do close-ups, so here are some small, thumbnail group shots to give you an idea!

I couldn't see Izzy during here music and movement performance, but quickly snapped her as she left! I helped Jos with her ukulele practice when they visited in November. THis is how long they've been working on this!

They did most of the songs in French, as it is a French Immersion school. I managed to remember all the French words to 'Oh, Canada!' Isn't this cute?

There was tap dancing and ballet. One of Jos' friends danced in the Nutcracker at the NAC. That was a special event. They went to see her last weekend.

We said our goodbyes and headed back to the country.  JB made a joke about the poor kids having to go to work, while we were free! Yes, he rubbed it in! There were quite a few grandparents there.

There were lots of decorations up in the neighbourhood.

Crazy drivers! Blocking three lanes!

I haven't seen many decorated hay bales lately. Here is one.

We ambled home, looking for critters.

Brave Grandparents to be out there in the minus temps, hat and all.But so worth the trip, and think of those who could not be there. Sounds like a super performance.
