Still no ducklings!

I noticed holes in our tree. The woodpeckers have been at it. One branch is leaning.

One culprit

Any day now the eggs will hatch. I wonder if the cooler weather has slowed the egg development. Incubation is 28 - 37 days. We are at day 30. It's all very exciting.

I think I have the cameras set properly. I can capture the ducks on the boxes using the two trailcams. Eventually, the ducklings will leave the nest.

There is lots of action on the pond.

Hooray for spring!

After trekking down to the pond, I took it easy yesterday. Cool, and a good day to relax. We read on the back deck until the sun disappeared.

We anticipate more rain We shall see what happens.

Did you ever hear the Canadian folk group called The Travellers? They sang a song about ducklings that wouldn't come because they didn't want to be killed for dinner. That's what your post brought to mind. I probably haven't heard that song for 60 years or more.

I love seeing the photos from your trail cams! How fun! Must be so exciting waiting to see the ducklings hatch! :)

Great read Jenn, loved all photos and videos. Great to see those wood duck eggs up close like that, and all the neat holes on your tree!!! We have a woodpecker that likes to sharpen his beak on the aluminum siding outside our bedroom window EARLY every morning. It is a good wake-up alarm, though sometimes I wish he would wait a little longer :)

Flowers in your basket, and a support strap on your ankle? Those eggs, this will be so exciting, almost as much as our new shower!!! Hooper and Annabelle for company, a perfect place to rest and read.

It should be anytime now.

We're under a severe thunderstorm watch going into the early evening.
