Sady, the raccoon, cat walkies on the frozen lake

"Butch"
Sometimes it is easier getting the raccoons in than the cats! When we lived in Muskoka, they'd amble up onto the deck. Mom and Dad fed the birds, as we did. They had a long history of having a food source here. Mom and Dad moved there full-time in 1991.

Below is an old video of Sady, for hubby who loves his special cat.

The raccoon is grabbing at the feeder. Later on, I hung this same feeder from the tree limb. I went out one evening and Butch was hauling the feeder chain up, hand-over-hand. Just like a sailor bringing in the anchor.

December 21, 2013Saturday’s Critters #3First, I wish Merry Christmas to everyone. I know a lot of bloggers are taking blogging breaks. I want to wish them and you a happy holiday with family and loved ones. My Saturday’s Critter post and photos are from our yard and a walk on the NCR trail a few
Sady just pretended to go after it.
They have such similar colouring!

I'd scare her off, she'd just come back!

Sady has a deal with Butch, the raccoon: I'll pretend I'm protecting my property. You pretend to run! Sady came up to be let in the door, the raccoon ignored us. Eventually, she spotted the 'coon, and sort of chased her!

We had fun walking the cats on the frozen lake in Bala. On a sunny but cold day they braved the wind. Sady, the tabby, loves to follow my husband across the lakeshore. Oliver, our black cat, bravely follows us on the ice. A few days later we had fog and rain.

You clearly have some fun there between the antics of the cats and the coon! :)

i discourage the raccoons from hanging around here. they're terrible about making a mess of my horse feed. (i like sadie on the snow with your hubby).

It is strange to see the raccoons on the deck in the daylight. They do not seem to mind the kitty either. Great post and photos. Thanks for linking up to Saturday's Critters. Have a happy weekend!
Merry Christmas to you and your family!

I'm sure glad we don't have raccoons here YET! A couple have been seen about 50 km from here so it won't be long.

Great shots. I haven't seen a raccoon at my house in years but this summer a family of foxes had their den under my house.

I certainly enjoyed your videos!! So funny watching the cats walking in the snow - and what fun watching a racoon snitching the bird food. Is your cat friends with the racoon?

You cats are proof that felines should not be 'indoors only'.

I would have been nervous with your cat chasing after the raccoon. They have been known to turn on a domestic animal pursuing them. Many of the raccoons in our area are as big as our dog!

ha. my cat loves the snow...he is a nut...and he has a similar deal with the wildlife here...he is often down sitting in the backyard with the deer...or the coons...we came home one night and they were all kinda hanging out together in the back yard...and when our light hit them they scattered...i figure they got caught having a party..ha

Racoons are smart guys. Must have been interesting to watch him haul in the bird feeder. Our cat is in Bellingham with a friend feeding him while we are away on a "sun seeker" trip for the weekend. - Margy

I just adore raccoons. I've spent a few summers hand feeding, cuddling and playing with a half dozen rescues. They are intelligent, funny, loving and spunky. One of them was released at the cottage three years ago and essentially lives wild. But come summer, she still comes when called, allows her human mama to pick her up and hand feed her and has even brought her kits for inspection.. though the babies are fearful of humans, as they should be. Yeah, I just adore raccoons.
