December ice storm has left an icy surface on snow

Dec. 25th we had about 30 cm of snow on the ground. We've had melts and more snow.  But it is the cold! I went out to refill the bird feeders and found it treacherous! Your foot goes through the ice and you feel a sudden drop through the powdery stuff.
A few clouds
-29°C
The deer fall through the ice

They were happy with the sunshine yesterday

It is pretty - note my new snow stick!

After the big ice rain and storms, the deer have emerged into the sun shine. They are cracking their wee shins, as they slip on the ice and then suddenly sink down into the soft snow below. We have about 30 cm on the ground, with the top inch being frozen solid. It is awful walking for human and beast!
The poor deer are cracking their shins in it, since there is about an inch of ice on the surface.
Tues. Morning pretty cold, too!

Minus 29 is awful! We've had the cold up until the 23 rd. Today will be plus 5! I know , I'm bragging!
Keep safe and warm. Don't fall through too much more snow.

Just the same here - but you can walk right across the top on snowshoes!

Oh, the poor deer. All seemed merry and bright, with Bing in the background and deer on the snow, until they started skating on it.
Beautiful things are often treacherous.
I hope you are spending some time with your adorable granddaughters today or tomorrow.
Love and hugs,
K

Oh my! I'm running out of places to shovel snow. I think it's even more than last year at this time. The worst part of the last storm missed us here in the Laurentians - that is we only got some snow, and about half an hour of freezing drizzle. not enough to even form a crust on the snow. If it keeps up my paths will become tunnels. (Grinning).
ATB!
