My favourite Christmas show: Bob Hope

My favourite Christmas memories included Bob Hope's Christmas shows. I remember watching one where I cried. It featured a young soldier, sitting trying to load 35mm film into his camera, fumbling and fumbling. He never did get it loaded. They would return to the man and his camera throughout the show. It was so sad, even while Bob Hope put on a wonderful show!

Bob Hope entertained the troops across many decades, from the 30s up until 1990. He took famous actors and entertainers across the pond to do show for troops: Phyllis Diller, Raquel Welch, and many others.

Bob Hope was named an honorary veteran of World War II by an act of Congress in 1997. He is the holder of two Guinness Book of Records: Most Honored Entertainer, and Entertainer with the longest running contract with a single network (NBC - 61 years). His signature song "Thanks for the Memories" was first sung in the film "The Big Broadcast of 1938" (1938).
