It was spur of the moment. I saw one Scott had done, and displayed at a show. He has built our fencing at the road, as well as our gate. He has some really unusual pieces.
Scott and 'Old Al' (he's actually younger than Scott!) brought it and installed it.
I sent hubby out to see it. He was out when it went up, and drove in past it, not noticing. He was about to go for a walk, but it was raining. I told he had to go for a walk down the driveway, at least.
I put the trailcam in front of the doorway, just to see if the critters noticed it. They just went back and forth!

unique arbor!
That's a unique entrance.
The plot of land I call my front yard was once a boy scout camp. When we bought the property, there was a magnificent big gate over the lane, much like the one you now have. Sadly, the cement truck took it down when they came in to pour our basement floor.
I Told Mike that with hunting season starting this week, watch for the deer to show up in the front yard. Sure enough, as we were pulling in just at dusk, there was one at the head of the lane and one grazing by the garden. They will hang around here until hunting closes then disappear back into the bush. It has been like this for 30+ years!
I guess it is so natural to the setting he didn't notice at first? It does look perfect for the spot.

I like it... and can see decoration of the seasons added by Jenn in due course!!! YAM xx
Well as others have commented, I too think it's quite unique but natural to the setting.
All the best Jan
Also meant to say, I do like the wonderful colours in your header photograph.
All the best Jan
That is quite a structure to have about!
In regards to your comment at my post the other day, while I imagine a good part of the estate's costs come from the NCC budget, some of that would certainly be augmented by the parking fees that the main parking lot has for the place during the season, but beyond that, there's no fee, particularly if you're walking onto the grounds.
Scott and 'Old Al' did a lovely job. It looks so natural, no wonder he didn't notice it.

I like it. Natural wood makes it perfect. - Margy
whatever it is... I like it Looks great :)
I love this. I would be tempted to plant some wisteria or clematis near it, but then I think it would cover up all the beautiful wood ...
