An afternoon in Westport

That was a long day! I toodled off to Westport for a funeral. On the way there was some excitement.

They were still there on the way home!

It's a lovely church, rebuilt after a fire back in the day of wood stoves and all.

A lovely Celebration of Life for a man of deep faith, followed by a Legion ceremony. A man who served as a teacher, police auxiliary inspector, active member of the Legion, and a town  councillor. It was moving.

We all drove behind the hearse to the cemetery. Do you know how easy it is to turn on your flashers accidentally? I have done so. It took me a moment to find them for this.
A beautiful day.

For some respite (the town was busy), I drove home through empty, quiet backroads, stopping for photos.

Even met a ruffed grouse!

The park has new signage. Well, new to me?! "CAUTION ENDANGERED SPECIES AREA"

Sure enough, an actual example of an endangered species! I'd just passed the park, and there was traffic coming and going. I thought it best to get out and usher it across the busy road.

Here I am on the dashcam.

Your friend had a life well lived. I must remember to locate the "button" on my car for the 4 way flashers. So many turtles out on the road at this time, we have so many big snappers. A lovely drive home.

If I am seeing it rightly, that church has the podium in the corner, which is similar to the one in Ashton. I haven't seen that configuration elsewhere. There are probably many like this, but I haven't come across them.

Yay wildlife rescue! Loved your gentle toe taps. He was probably quite tired of the asphalt road by the time you stopped, not to mention other cars that might have whizzed by before you got there. However, you did mention light traffic. That was a plus. The tiny letters of the sign to warn drivers of endangered species won't really be read by many.

Mr. Turtle is glad you took the scenic route and helped him out. Linda in Kansas

We took Baron Canyon Rd into Algonquin yesterday. There are signs along the road warning folks to watch for turtles and snakes. Still, they drive like it's a speedway on the dusty, washboard road. They would never see the poor creatures.

We need more people like your friend who passed away. He was a good example to all of us.

I'm at that stage in life where funerals are becoming routine events.

It sounds like that man was a blessing.

Turtle guarding! 👍 I like that there are signs giving folks a heads up to be careful.

That is the craziest coincidence but just this morning I just rescued a turtle trying to cross the road as well.

What a beautiful old church and a fitting tribute to a man whose life was well lived.

So glad you helped the turtle cross the road. Loved all your candid shots.
