Happy days birdwatching

Those poor old sumacs. I think the first home owners plowed them down to create more 'lawn.' It's been too dry for them, as they are on very shallow soil. This is the same with our other sumac patch in the backyard. They are lovely bushes.

The meadow with a touch of snow left:

The frogpond has gone to bed, the native phragmites bending over in the frost.

The goldfish pond get a touch of ice overnight, and melts in the daytime.
The snow on the roof melted and filled the goldfish pond.
I emptied the water barrel, as we are below zero at night.

I've set up my bird feeder camera, again. I had 4 mourning doves here, at one point.
Both cardinals have been around.

I love Morning Doves, or as we call them, Ladies In Sweaters. Such a gentle bird. Oh Mr & Mrs Cardinal, great photos of them all.

Nice to see the cardinals. The boys are flashier, but the girls are so pretty.

...phragmites isn't a native, it's invasive WEED!

There seems to be a love hate relationship with sumac around here. My brother in law bought an abandoned berry farm nearby. The fields have been taken over by the sumac and he curses them! I would love to get some growing on the edge of the field in front of my house. It would be wonderful color and attract the birds with the berries come fall and winter.

Beautiful birds, glad you've got a camera set up for them. Sumacs (some) may be poisonous, which I didn't know in my teens when I picked some for a fall bouquet. Wonder if I got a rash...don't remember.

We spend a LOT of time watching the birds here. Time that we both think is well spent.

I've been seeing and hearing a lot of Cardinals lately. And lots of Juncos too.

I have not seen mourning doves or cardinals here this fall but we certainly have seen plenty of them here in the past so I hope they will return soon.

Lots of changes come with fall. that necessitates many different jobs.

That's a big project. I like the idea of honest repair or restoration. I miss that show since I dropped netflix. I wonder if it's on Britbox...
