Donaldson's Shell and Heritage Convenience store: gas station renovations: May => July

Before
My readers, as much as I, enjoy before and after photos. I caught the construction bug when I volunteered to do a blog for the construction of a Bala, Ontario, Habitat for Humanity home: Delta Resorts Muskoka Build(122 posts) I remain friends with one of the semi-detached homeowners via Facebook!

I noticed that one of our local gas station was having a huge makeover. They asked me to cover their Hallowe'en contest in 2012. That was fun!

After
I always snap photos as we drive, and I thought I'd snap a photo of the site. Every time we drove by, during renos, I would snap a photo.
They have a Facebook page, and took photos, as well!

The Before shot is a photo I grabbed as a drive-by when I spotted someone who had driven up on their lawn tractor to get a fill-up. My lawn tractor holds about 10L of gas! You know you're in the country when... It is a busy spot, with trucks trying to make the turn onto Scotch Line Rd. They talked about creating a ring road around town, but it hasn't happened.

It appears they took out the old tanks, I'm sure they have a shelf life,  and put in new ones, as well as building a shelter for those pumping gas. At one point the hole was filled with water.
At another time, I noticed the digger down in the hole. We wondered how it would get out of the hole, but didn't stick around to find out!

They began in May, and just finished this past week, July.

I know the new one is a lot more functional, but something has to be said for the quaint and nostalgic look of the original. We have an old gas station in the Townsite portion of Powell River that looks like it did back in the 40s. I kind of like it. Plus it fits with the Historic Site status of the community. - Margy

The ride-on mower, what a laugh, and the new building looks very smart, functional, and user-friendly, specially with the extended roof for cover in bad weather!! I am sure they appreciate your coverage of all the development.

I love seeing Before and After photos. My problem is that I keep forgetting to take the Before photos. These are fun.

Great recording... It's true that the quaint look may have been more in keeping... but from what I see here, updating has not necessarily destroyed the 'feel' of the place. ...Actually our Dunoon station could do with a makeover like this!!! YAM xx

You did get a great sequence of shots. Nicely done.

It's fun to see before and after photos...plus the work in between. The after phot makes the station so much nicer for motorists in inclement weather.

Quite a shift over time. I've been tracking a building project here- I really should photograph where it's at now, I haven't photographed it since early June.
