Forest bathing

Thanks for reading yesterday's rant. When an issue hits close to home, it personalizes it for us.
I will go back to my photos...

Finally Joe got his birthday meatloaf. Half is in the freezer, too.

I found two more deer scrapes. Seriously!

Standing in the forest, looking into the still green wetland is so peaceful.

If you look closely, you can see the wood shed.

This is the house up the hill.

I looked down at my feet! One does have to watch their step. It looks like legs bones from the deer up by the house. Still, I haven't seen a coyote in the day time for a long time.

I know they are out there in the night. Lots of our wild animals know this. I can tell by out trailcams!

I spent Wednesday morning, while Joe was shopping, to put up lights. It's so dark so early. It made me happy.

We are rewatching Season 1 of Sherwood in preparation for Season 2! You know how that goes. They release a new season and it would help to have the continuity of the previous season.
The cats were thrilled with our latest TV adventure.

I leave you with Joe's work of art! I posted it on our family photostream. Our SIL, JL, offered a mere $1,000,00099!

Forest bathing

The week began with me putting out garbage. Next I fed the deer in the snow!

Monday afternoon, Cinnamon and I went walkies in the sunshine. The coyotes have obviously been running through the forest. Their scat is quite furry compared to other critters.

The little dweeb decided he'd explore the frozen wetland. Daisy used to do that! The only problem with this is that there aren't any trees for him to climb in an emergency. I have to keep on being loud.

He wouldn't come! He is a cat. "Dogs have owners, cats have staff." I am loud, and the critters won't come around if they know a human is here. He was safe. I yelled and yelled. Toddling off to find the trailcams, as is his way, he met me up on the driveway once I'd headed for the house.

Forest bathing with Cinnamon

Cinnamon and I went walking last weekend.

We found ourselves two owl pellets. Owls cannot digest bones and fur and regurgitate them out in a tidy pellet. I put them in an empty cat food can to dry out. Then, I got ready to take them apart to see what I could find! Grampa put out a note of warning:

"Don't steal Gramma Jenn's chocolates!"

I can't believe how much fur there is in two pellets! Really well compacted in side the skulls.

This is our walk. He had a blast.

It is pretty on the edge of the wetland.

I love his poofy tail, as he roars around with me.

Back indoors, it seems that people are enjoying the fine weather. Loop de loops in their flying machine.

More forest bathing

UPDATE: Sept. 28th

Before I continue on, sadly, one of the victims in the car that rolled near us is still in bad shape.  The driver has been charged with drunk driving. The two passengers are still in hospital. One 32-year-old is in hospital here, the other young man, 26, is in really bad shape

Zack Worthington's right wrist is broken, scapula/shoulder blade is broken, his face is broken: nose, orbital bone, forehead crushed. Bleeding from his brain frontal lobe is another problem, as well as some paralysis. He's in a medically induced coma, and on a ventilator. They are doing a fundraiser to help his girlfriend with expenses, as she is out of work. It's raised over $13,000.

I was wondering about the victims. These are all lessons in drinking and driving, especially on dark roads when wildlife is on the move.

OK, back to my tale.

Wait for meeeeeee! I went for a walk, and two cats came along.

My buddy.

Down in the wetland, at 'the point,' I had to creep to the edge of the wetland and duck under the tree branches and snap the pretty colours.

She is a dippy cat. Nutmeg tree climbing. Cinnamon just watches from below.

More little mushrooms.
This could be a painting! Can you see Nutmeg on the tree on the left?!

We had tree work done a couple of years ago. You can where the birch, in the foreground, was laid down. In the past few days, the birch in the middle ground came down.
The felled tree has lots of fungus!

I noticed the tree with a bit of a crook. Ten years here, and I'd not seen it before!

Look at those colours!

A man and his cat. She leads when he walks with her. Cinnamon leads when he walks with me!

Poor Nutmeg doesn't seem to be feeling well. She's gone back to bed. I'm thinking she needs deworming. We'll try that.

A walk on the tame side!

Day 2 of January, 2020. If I type it enough, perhaps I will remember!

These go back to last week, Dec. 24th. It was a warmish day, the greens stood out from the browns. There has been so much going on!

This is our 'nanny tree'. The birch grew up in the stump, but the stump is deteriorating.

We're having a bit of a problem with the kittens. I think they are older than previously thought. We're having to separate them. He is constantly grabbing her neck and trying to mount her. Their birthday is June 30th. They aren't scheduled for surgery until Feb. 12th (they are a busy vet service!).

Howling, screaming, jumping on her, bringing Annabelle to the rescue. I keep throwing one of them into the Muskoka Room, with the outer cat door locked. Oh my.
