Kingston Tennis Club – Sat., June 16th

Off we went to Kingston. Hubby wanted to see a live tennis game. Toronto and Montreal have some big tournaments coming up, but between everything (tickets, transportation, meals, staying over) it would cost us about $1000. We could have taken the train to Montreal, and stayed over. Or, he thought, an Ottawa tournament. That would involve downtown parking.

Why not go to Kingston? They were having a tournament, mixed doubles, and we could have ringside seats. The drive was lovely. (More on that tomorrow). There was no problem parking! Hubby found the information online.
Mixed Doubles tournament runs from Friday, June 15 through to Sunday, June 17, with the tournament BBQ dinner scheduled for 6:00pm on Saturday the 16th. The cost for the tournament is $20/person (includes dinner).
We met the nicest people. We were given some tips on which players to watch. One game had just finished as we arrived, and they'd played for 3 hours. There were family members watching one another's games.

It is a lovely club, nestled in downtown Kingston. People rode their bikes, some walked to the tournament.
The wooden clubhouse dates back to 1928 and provides simple facilities for members: change rooms with showers & washrooms are on the ground floor; the office and a small lounge area are located upstairs.

There was much jocularity, good old fashioned ribbing, and some serious tennis. The player serving calls out the score prior to her serve.

Kingston is a great city. There are many opportunities for recreation. You don't need to be a pro athlete to have fun moving about and be a good sport.
Kingston Sport and Social Club (KSSC)
The Sport & Social Club offers adults a fun outlet
through co-ed recreational sport leagues, outdoor adventure, tournaments, and social events.

This was the cutest little kid (far left). His parents were about to play, and he warmed them up. He might be a serious contender some day!

It was fun. Afterwards, we had lunch and trundled home.

I got kicked off that very court (or club at least) back in the mid-seventies. We were visiting K, and were taken there for a game (to play). But I was wearing sport shorts instead of what were deemed to be proper tennis shorts, and they asked me to leave.

Years ago, my sister & I played tennis a lot. Back in the days of wooden rackets lol.

Enjoyed this very much.

What about Wimbledon? Box seats, fancy hats, Strawberries and cream, champagne flutes, I would so love to be there, for the semis and finals.A dream, but we can all dream sometime. Imagine the players calling out their scores, what a fun day.

I'm not a tennis fan but I can understand why people watch and follow it.

For a couple of years Stratton Mtn in VT had a pro tennis event. It was amazing to to see the live action, much better than watching on tv. And in between you could people watch instead of watching tv commercials.
