9. Friday, June 8th – recovery!

Friday morning, first thing, we picked the cats up from the Cat's Meow, after our trip. (2. Vancouver and kidlets!)
It was a drive... people passing, and cats howling! It was funny, even at the time.

Once home, they leapt from the car, and headed into the forest.

I spent hours weeding, fixing the goldfish pond pump. Laundry. Lawn. Until I did the lawn, the three cats were not more than 6' away from me! Hanging the clothes up, working on the pond, they followed me everywhere. JB was doing errands, like groceries. No one helped me clean the fridge, though!

The day we left (May 31st), I took a photo of the bleeding heart plant, and the peony plant. You can see the peony bud in the lower right, I was worried I would miss it, being gone from Thursday=>Thursday. When we returned, the plant that had not bloomed in all the years we have lived here (Sept., 2010), was in full bloom. I am so glad I did not miss it!

Down at the trailcams, we had visitors while we were away.
June 2nd, right behind the house. The trailcam is on the dead cherry tree, Junior Bear must have ambled across the deck.

June 7th – a surprise, TWO bears!

I haven't seen them on the trailcams since we have returned. Hm.
Down by the trailcam, I just caught the last ladyslipper orchid in bloom.

It's so much fun to take a long vacation and then so very wonderful to get home again. Even with all the work to get done, there was just so much about your home that says, "Welcome back!"

There's nothing like coming back home from a trip. True, a lot of work awaits us, but we are the ones that decide the amount of work that is to be done in and around a house.

The kitties must have been glad to get home and start sniffing at everything they'd been missing.

It's always good to be home but all the work has piled up.

That sneaky peony, but you caught it in time.

All this 'work' is why I always need a 'vacation from my vacation'. In a few weeks we are going to leave our cats, house and garden under the careful eye of one of our neighborhood boys … I am probably less worried about the cats than I am the new landscaping and whether it will withstand the lack of attention and the deer! How cool to get so many bears on your trail cam. They probably have figured out you're back and have changed routes ...
