The are rebuilding the dock in order to allow a drive on, drive off dockage.
Amherst Island Ferry - Loyalist Township
The Ministry of Transportation is constructing new ferry docks at Stella (Amherst Island) and Millhaven. The newly constructed docks will permit end loading of the Frontenac II ferry and other MTO-operated ferries.
The project began in October 2017 with Stage 1, the construction of the temporary docks.
The trick with this ferry is you have to back up straight behind, watch your ferry crew like stink when you arrive on the other side, and turn when they tell you. I'm not very good at it!
In the meantime, they are dredging.
Anyway, I love work, I could watching it for hours!
For the duration of this project, the most current information will be posted on the project's website.

Wwwhhhheeeeeeeee, I want to be on that little red boat!!! I suppose the locals are used to the ferry thing, but RORO will be a major step forward. Interestingly, we are having some upgrade to the mainland side of our ferry, so that the boat doesn't have to do a virtual 'u'turn to dock; being tidal also adds interest and the whole process takes several minutes longer than all the commuters are happy with, so a straight-on dock is being created. Ours are RORO and always have been... but there is a much-remembered (after 15 years) situation where one end of the ferry would not drop, so IT reversed and all 40 vehicles on it had to reverse up the ramp to get off!!! YAM xx
The planners, the consultants, the other top brass, and then the workers, out in all weather, I can see this will be a huge improvement. At least he is in a cab, protected from rain and snow, as he sits, swivels the cab, and moves stones from one place to another. I think you will give us a much better view of all this than the other site. Work, just watch, a great way to plan a day.
That is quite a big job to get done!
So you're worried that you'll back off and fall in the water!!!
How awful that they have to do this work in the dead of winter. Brrrrr....
That must be a big challenge to back up to get off. Our small ferry turns around so you can drive on and drive off. - Margy
