Woodpecker on Cherry tree in better times |
On a sad note...our lovely Cherry tree is dead as a door nail. Burned in the long winter two years ago, I have to figure out what to do with it. The birds, especially the woodpeckers, loved the fruit. They would spear a cherry and haul off with it!
Cherry tree in spring 2011 Buster is in the middle of it! |
In the meantime, here are my drive-by shootings of the beautiful trees. You will understand how much I appreciate the beautiful trees, and the lovely yellow dandelions after a cold, white winter!
I believe we should let the dandelions flourish. They are lovely in spring, much fun for kids and important for the insects.
Feel free to skip the photos, there are a lot, but what a lovely sight for sore eyes! Seeing the dandelions on lawns is heart-warming, as we know these homeowners are NOT using herbicides to kill them off. The lilacs are such a harbinger of spring. It's wonderful seeing people out working their gardens, too. Such kindred spirits!

Sorry about your cherry tree, Jennifer. Maybe shoots will grow from the roots. I liked your yellow-bellied sapsucker shot taken in the tree's glory days. I completely agree with you on the dandelion issue. Make wine, not war!
Cheers, Florence
Sorry to hear about your cherry tree. Your photos are lovely. Warm greetings from Montreal.
Quite a rich variety in shots, Jennifer!
I am sorry about the cherry tree; birds do often like old trees for nesting etc., so maybe if you can stand to look it, you could leave it.
We were amazed at all the beautiful dandelions in Alaska last summer and I said then that I was sure people welcome the bright color after their long winter.
I love them and the lilacs (also seen last summer for the first time in years). We don't have those spring flowers here in Florida.
Beautiful, every one, and daisies, dandelions, and all else shows spring has arrived. The pink blossoms, delicate and frothy!!!
what a wonderful time of year, thanks for the gorgeous photos!

Great drive by shots. Our stuff is just starting to bloom.
Dandelions always made me smile in spring, but they made Art shudder. :- )
