What I have learned about setting up a trailcam

My tutor, Justin Hoffman, has been amazing. He is a wildlife photographer and a writer.
I've been posting my progress. It has been varied.
Justin advised that the camera should be facing north, so as not to get backlit photos. That helped.
Of course, if you bait your trail cam with deer food, what will you get? Deer. I threw down some cracked corn, hoping for rabbit. I got an ear. The camera was pointed at the food, but the wiley rabbit (not wiley coyote) skipped along beside the camera. You can just see the ears above '17!'

Justin put down a turkey neck at Christmas and got a fisher on his trailcam. That fisher worked the snow at 2:00 a.m. until it uncovered the buried neck.
I've switched from video, which takes a lot of battery energy, to photos. My goal is simply to document the wildlife that I do not often see, like the coyote.

deer butts!
It's a bit old to be nursing!
Thought it'd give it a try, though!

You are so ambitious, getting out in the swamp! I prefer to hibernate, now that I have an old lady dog who claims she doesn't need walkies...
I love that backlit photo of Annabelle!!!

Fun to do.. it is motion activated? That's a healthy looking coyote.

Yes, it is Hilary. It works really well. I have a PlantCam, and run that on automatic. This is more fun to see who is in our forest!

Your trail cam is pretty active. With that many critters around you are likely to see some very different animals show up.

They look ghostly in the night shots.

I've been thinking about getting one for a year or so, but haven't. I would like to see who is eating my garden at night! - Margy
