Crumbly Acres: Winnifred

We've had some sorta busy days. My volunteer work seems to have dried up, so we are inventing our own fun. I think our clients are being poached by another agency. This other non-profit agency has big funding from private donors. Hospice and respite work is difficult, unpaid, and difficult to find funding for. It is discouraging.

I have big news. We are releasing an Eastern Gray Squirrel (black morph) this week. We've released raccoons and skunks previously. The videos were fun. This is my post from 2017. AnvilCloud even watched all my videos. That is a high recommendation! I know I post a lot of videos, but it keeps us happy.

In the meantime, 🐣  PHOEBE has two three eggs. This is the first one, May 8th. May 9th another egg. They'll do this every day. She's not sitting on the nest, though. And it is cool. This is why they hatch about the same time, I think. I am watching for the cow bird, who lays eggs in other birds nest.

Ah, Fred! I've had fun watching him with the trailcam.

Do you remember me filling in his hole? I used a long piece of firewood, shoving it in the hole.

Caitlin suggested we call him/her Winnifred! I told Fred he wins.

Fred must have pulled the log into the burrow.

Winnifred

Since my mother had Fridays off, I recall sitting with her on Friday afternoon, watching RomComs. I've been doing that some afternoons. Joe found me a new series, Recipes for Love & Murder (South Africa). I've really been enjoying it. Cooking and recipes are a big theme. They are heavily committed to including Aboriginal actors, using their native language. It is sensual, as only a close-up cooking show can do. Think of Nigella Lawson! The lead is a Scottish actor, and she is wonderful. These shows feature local musicians, and the scenery is amazing.

We've also watched Scrublands (AU). It was amazing.

I haven't started Scrublands yet, but will do so this summer.

Looks like Winnifred is really having a good time at your place.

Should I be honoured to have gotten a mention?
The weather is very nice right now despite the near frost last night. I hope you enjoy the day.

Well, I do like Winifred better than Frederika! She's certainly a resourceful tunnel digger! I'm watching a squirrel outside my window, who was flipping around like a banshee on the ground a while ago, but then climbed the tree and now is busy eating whatever she found. And now she's checking out the highest branches of the tree.

Lots of creatures around your house! I have given up hanging the hummingbird feeder, the damn tree rat just climbs up the post and drinks all the sweet water. Sad for the hummers, but I hope they find another source.

Fred is a determined lad !!! Scrublands, that looks intriguing.

If the black squirrel stayed local, you have another wild guest that will match Fred's annoyances. I will tell the sad tale (tail?) of Nijinsky the black squirrel shortly.
