Cool mornings, are you ready?

😷 Our COVID symptoms lessen each day. We are still tired. I did a bit of weeding yesterday without coughing my brains out. I still need the puffer. My prescription ran out, and I am using Joe's, which expired in January. I am going to have to argue with the pharmacy to see if I can get a new one. My health insurance won't pay for one until Aug. 16th. Desperate times...

🐾 Fred Groundhog

Here we are, Aug. 8th. This morning it was 12 ℃., and Fred groundhog has disappeared. I haven't seen him in a few days (perhaps a week), with the cooler August mornings. In 2023, my last recorded sighting of him was Aug. 21st. I imagine that he has to go work on his winter house. Autumn is approaching! See you next year, Fred! He's left early this year. I'm not sure what he knows that we don't know. Maybe an early Fall, after an early spring?

My bell fell over. I need to trim off the bottom, which is rotten and uneven. (Non-mental note.) Here is my precious rehomed Daisy, back in 2017, inspecting the bell. She kept attacking Nutmeg.

This is Dogwood I transplanted from beside the driveway. It needed more sun. Last year ,the doe trimmed it! Finally, this year, it seems to be thriving inside the deer fence.

Taking some quiet time to read my book on the back deck – a tussock moth caterpillar distracted me.

I uncovered the BBQ to replace the propane tank. It looks like someone was building a nest! Speaking of getting ready for winter. It's been propaneless and idle since July 13th. This is our COVID BBQ, too big for the two of us, but it was the only one that was preassembled. There was no staff available to assemble a smaller one.

I cooked these for lunches, and to supplement the pasta dish JB got for me at Boston Pizza. They never have enough stuff with the pasta.

I worked my way through all these Daniel Kalla books whilst home sick. Ruth Ware's One Perfect Couple is fantastic.

I hope you’re feeling better each day! It’s great to hear your COVID symptoms are improving, even if you’re still tired. Fingers crossed the pharmacy sorts out your puffer situation soon.

I’m sorry to hear about Fred the groundhog disappearing early—he might be sensing something we haven’t yet noticed. And it sounds like your bell and BBQ have their own adventures!

I just posted a new blog post at www.melodyjacob.com. I invite you to read and let me know what you think about it. Thank you!

You have reminded me. I think I have one more Qing left before I need to change our tank.

I'm glad to hear that you are doing better. I really love dogwoods and would like to have one in my yard one day.
One day at a time.
And...I hope you get a puffer. :(

So glad to hear you're on the mend. Your dogwood is a different variety to our native dogwood trees...has similar leaves but we have a flat 4-petaled flower, not the cluster that yours has. Is it a shrub or tree just starting? The grilled meat looks good. I had breakfast for dinner last night, scrambled eggs and sausage links. All done in the microwave!

No baby Freds appeared at all? Those books look interesting so I will have to keep my eyes open for them.

We had a large BBQ too, gave it away, and now have a Weber Qm on a trolley Hugh made, it is perfect, but not quite big enough to do the Ham at Christmas. I am thinking we need the Weber Family size for that.Yes, animals have a sense we don't have, Boris knows about an earthquake before we hear or feel it, Birds in the forest know that too, so maybe Fred is savvy and getting ready for his winter abode well and truly early, smart guy.!!!

I look forward to the day COVID is in your rearview mirror, as I'm sure you do, too.

That dogwood wants to live, doesn't it! It's still hot here. We won't get cool weather til much later.

It takes a while to get back in your routine.

Daisy and the bell -- a great photo. Take it easy getting back in gear. No sense pushing but I'm glad things are improving.

Such good news on your Covid recovery. It does take it out of you and I expect you are going to be tired for a while. Happy to know you are at least on the road. Hope you get your puffer and good luck with the pharmacist! Cute pictures of both Fred and Daisy. It is interesting she didn’t get along with Nutmeg. I had friends years ago who used to have two cats and often sat between them with a water pistol with cats at the ready on each side of the room! They both got a good dousing at times, but they told me it worked. How long for I can’t remember. That’s a pretty blue bell! You must be very happy your dogwood is now thriving. The tussock moth caterpillar is very pretty. Mice building a nest? The hotdogs are making me hungry. I think I am going to put some on the shopping list. Thanks for the book ideas and continue to feel better.
