This 80+-year-old resort |
This is an old resort, In Chaffey's Locks, bought up by a couple with much energy and talent. Fiona McKean and Tobias Lütke bought it at auction in 2015.
It was Chaffey's residence in the early days, in the 1870s. Next, a boarding house in the 1890s, and a luxury men's fishing club in 1900s. They had personal barbers, and a private golf course.
It was purchased by W.E. Phillips in 1921 and reopened as The Opinicon Club. Up for sale in 2012, we had driven by many times.
It's been spruced up and modernized. Only open until the end of October, and they are working on a new pool! We had a wonderful lunch. Such a beautiful spot, even in Autumn!
A wonderful venue, featuring modern art. A couple of pieces are by an acquaintance, Andrew King!
A senior's groups was visiting for lunch! All of the accommodations are cottages. They even have several spots for electric cars to recharge.
The drive home was lovely, as well.

It looks like autumn in your neck of the woods. Hope you had a good Thanksgiving weekend.
I sure want to visit that place one of these days, well, next year? That lodge brings back memories of my Grandpa Ike's big old fashioned lodge/cottage on Chemong Lake just north of Peterborough.
Marvelous inside and out. Great fall colours too!
It looks like a very beautiful place. The Autumn colours are mesmerizing.
Looks wonderful, and so many trees are well into their autumn colours now.
Posh facility with a great history.
I was at The Opinicon about 10 or 15 years ago! Nice place.

My that does look inviting! What a shame it is across so much water... &*< YAM xx
What day was this? We stopped at Chaffys (and other locks) on Tuesday and waved to the Opinicon in passing. :)
How was it? We had friends go a month or two ago, and they were not happy with either the meal of the service.
We were there on Wednesday, John! It was pretty quiet, and that makes a difference on places like this. A month ago it would have been busy.
Makes me think of a resort Wayne took me to in the Adirondacks. - Margy
