Trip to Herbfest on the long weekend!

There were a lot of bikes on the road. All 'Vulnerable Road Users." This trio pulled into the gas station just outside Almonte, at CR #29 and Wolfe Grove Rd. It's a very busy intersection. Dad, in flip flops, doesn't understand either the law, or responsible parenting.
I cannot understand such neglect. In Ontario minors must wear helmets. There are various laws across Canada.

Traffic was heavy on this long weekend. Leaving the house at 8:00 a.m., we arrived at the new location in White Lake for 9:30. Driving was horrid. This guy passed us, you can see the oncoming car between his rear view mirror and the truck.

For years, Herbfest was located nearer to Ottawa. (Sunday trip to HerbFest! 2015;  HerbFest in Almonte 2012)
I've been thinking about growing my own sprouts, and I recalled a vendor having such supplies. No go! HerbFest 2016 is a mere shadow of its former self. There is a southeastern burn ban, since we've had little rain.

We made it to Herbfest.  It was pretty quiet. As has been the case, some hadn't even set up their booths yet! (We like to arrive early, before crowds!)

We visited
Part of the attraction is the Waba Cottage Museum  on this property. We had a Daycation to Burnstown's House and Garden Tour in 2014, and went in. We didn't bother this time. Once you've seen one old church and school house...

Parking volunteers didn't have a clue. They were more concerned with collecting the $2 per person fee, than facilitating the smooth entrance and exits of cars. They stopped this car and the previous car, pulled over on the right, which would have let us leave. Rather than doing so, they stood in the way and we had to wait for the two cars to pay, pass us, and then we could make our exit.

We met a couple on the way in, who lived up the road, and were only spending 20 minutes there. We drove 88km, over 90 minutes to attend!

This is what I bought: Joe Pye, a tall grass, and a poker thingie, I cannot remember the name of!

Hello, the festival looks like a fun time. The kiddies should be wearing their bike helmets, bad daddy!

Happy Wednesday, enjoy your day!

I don't know if this is of any help to you, but if you are up to a day trip.....Grandma's Pantry in Killaloe sells sprouting grains.

Sounds disappointing, but at least it was an outing.

Nrglect, indeed! All bikers, including children, on the road must wear helmets.
Nice to have a look at your photos with the stands of the Herbfest.

I notice you have a picture of a wild white water lily in your sidebar. I really love their unique scent!

We get sprouting grains at a bulk bin shop, and do them in a sprouter inside. So easy to do, and very good for your diet. The plants look great, a long way to do, but a good outing on a lovely summer day. Down here, thunder this morning, snow down south, and moving up to us at the weekend!!

The little girls without helmets is a complete no no. You see the same jerks without life vests.

Nice plants... and it never fails to amaze how many folks think 'oh its just down the road' and therefore laws don't apply to them... sigh... YAM xx

I even hate to see adults with no bike helmets ... here it is the law for kids to wear them but not adults. (That father did not qualify for the word 'adult') . Anyway -- living here in Oregon, where pot is legal now, I thought herbfest was going to be something different from what it was. I much prefer your kind of herbs, believe me!!

Never been even though it's closer to us. Wouldn't mind checking out that museum some time. I have seen it in my travels.
