It's been a busy weekend!

Retirement isn't for chumps!

What a fun time! We were celebrating a belated birthday for Izzy, as well as Mother's Day. I sent grampa out to buy 6 helium balloons. My camera battery died, so my SIL took a photo for me!

They treated us! How fun!

My Mother's Day gift from the kids was a new Wood Duck nesting box! Isn't it wonderful? Wood duck box #3!

We have three pairs of Wood ducks, and I've counted three more males, if not more.  They might be too close together, the boxes, but I'm limited on trees I can reach. We shall see. Daisy helped, although she was more moral support looking for a chipmunk. You can see her in this fuzzy photo. My camera lens is not autofocusing, and I was cold and tired at this point. But this is box #1. Then two and three.

The kids helped me reassemble JB's fountain. It was trying to straighten it, and it tipped over, broke the support. I had to jury rig it.

I'm having issues with Trailcam #3, as well. I broke the stand that holds it. My first Moultrie camera was terrific. The Wildgame brand (#2) had better bells and whistles, a large window to help aim it. This one isn't as great. I know we had a momma bear and cubs go by, they left the evidence.

Sunday, May 15th, we spotted a pair of bucks. They look frowsy, as they lose their winter coats. I'd love to go brush them!

Monday, May 16th, I spotted a cardinal! I haven't seen one in a year or more.

That's a wonderful gift. Your family knows you well!! I would give anything to see a wood duck. We simply cannot catch a glimpse of one no matter where we go.

I long to see a red cardinal - along with about 87 other birdies I see among my bloggy pals' offerings!!! I know how it feels when the camera tools start to play up...sigh... YAM xx

Cardinals do seem to be quite elusive!

Retirement can and should be the time of wonderful celebrations. Enjoy the wood box gift you got from the kids! Wood is solid and beautiful like the ties in your family.
The solitary cardinal in your picture is so cute!

I've also had limited success with my trail cameras, Jennifer. My black and white U_Way has quit recording completely and the colour Moultie frightens off the subjects when the LED light switches on. I'm a bit reluctant to shell out yet more dough on another one.
