Bird hunting!

I decided to participate in the Project Feederwatch bird count. Spurred by the 18 mourning doves in the trees, spotted from the (dirty) window, I thought it might be fun. I've signed up before, but never did get around to it.

Armed with my camera, videocam, and wrapped in my down-filled coat and a sleeping bag, I sat on the front deck.
I had another observer!

The birds came and went. Nothing too exciting, really. It's too early for any unusual birds. The insect-eaters aren't here. We're still frozen under 38 cm of snow cover. I watched them March 1/2, as we are supposed to do it for 2 days, and give the highest number of birds spotted at once.
My trusty metre stick!

I did have fun trying to capture the birds in flight. It's tricky. With my mittened hand, I had trouble adjusting the focus! I tried pre-focusing, and that went well, but when I see an unusual shot, I'm simply not fast enough! I'll leave the amazing photos to the pros.

It was an amusing experience.

You caught some very good bird photos. You did get some birds flying. Yes you and your camera have to be fast to get birds in flight. I'd like to see a photo of you covered up while watching for your birds.

great photos and well done braving the cold, as it was nippy cold today.

Love the little woodpecker. When I had a feeder at Mom's I loved to watch all the birds come and go. - Margy
