Curling in Canada

Curling has to be the calmest sport. We were watching the afternoon game, Wed., April 6th. On the march in, the team from Norway came in wearing their famous pants. But they were carrying brooms and a pair of shoes.

Turns out, during the warm-up game with the Swedes, they made a bet. The  losers had to carry in the other teams equipment for them! It was fun.

Good show by all involved. Happy to be indoors watching curling, while it rains outside, nope, hails now.
I am very much enjoying the Ford Men's World Curling championships. We watched the women last month. They were terrific, too.

Wonderful to see so many fans. The stadium is filed with nearly 6,000 people having a fun time.

It is delightful to see such gentlemen on the ice, too.  We do not watch hockey.

Aside from our Canadian men following in the footsteps of our fabulous women, who earned a silver medal at the world's, it is terrific to see our men's team demonstrating  dignity, respect, and loyalty to one another.
Our men play respectfully whether they play Scotland (up 6-1), or a team that is down 2-5 in the series, like some of the other teams.

Norway's fashion statements!
I was happy to see the umpire (?!) tell keener Jeff Stoughton to take off his green jacket. He represents Canada, not Manitoba.
I appreciate how the media do not interfere much in the game.

There are no concussions, no injuries, no unnecessary body contact. The TSN announcers are intelligent and help educate us.

In fact, we haven't missed a game, despite volunteering at Meals on Wheels, etc., and the only negative moment was one of the US men mocking his US skip. There have been a couple of 'Jxsxs.Crst.s', since the players are miked, but very few.
I have never curled. Not happy with team sports.
BUt this series has highlighted our wonderful Canadians, and shown our class to the world.
Kudos to the many volunteers I know are involved.

France only has two curling rinks, they are tied with Sweden.
The Czech team is working very hard, as are the other teams that leave their European countries to travel to train on international rinks.

I must admit that Norway, with their plaids, flag and hound's
tooth jazzy pants, remain my favourite to watch. That is awfully fun.

One of the best moments: watching Canada's coach, coach Norm Gould at the Canadian championships downing some cheese nachos. After being featured on TSN, he was filmed the next day eating healthy veggies! I think someone snitched.

Curling is one sport that I need to learn more about. I've watched it, but have to be honest I don't understand all of the rules. - Margy
