Now, Sept. 27th was the day of protest in Canada. Our kids went to Parliament Hill in their electric car, marching with the Greens. Many marched, Greta Thuneberg led them in Montreal.
I must say, that while the young people are leading them, we used to have a robust curriculum around the environment. This was prior to our Ontario Curriculum, revised in 1991, whereby big business influenced the provincial government to remove some of the more powerful pieces of the curriculum. There were three of us, teaching gr. 6 in a middle school, and we had a robust curriculum we planned out together. We had 200 kids do much in the way of understanding reduce–reuse–recycle. We did research, understood about renewable resources, pollution, and it culminated in and Earth Day assembly where we shared our knowledge.
