We'll start with the bad news. I made my way down to the dock. There was an egg, devoid of contents. I am terribly discouraged.
Sure enough, the eggs in the wood duck nest box were cold. No duck in the nest. It breaks my heart. Yes, it is the cycle of life. The mink, raccoons and weasels need to eat.
I think #75 is beginning to regret his new B & B! He hasn't ventured far. While he gets breakfast once a day, it's cold outside. It's been 11 days, and he is still here. He could stay, he could move!
Butch has been out and about.
We were in the living room, when Joe spotted a doe.
The deer fence worked.
The trailcam on the driveway has caught several critters.
The quick red fox! It sort of stared at the house for a moment. They learn about humans and their structures.

Hello,
Yes, all the critters need to eat. But, it is sad to loose the wood duck eggs. I love your deer, they are a favorite. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a wonderful weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
Good trail cam shots. I have to turn mine back on. I shut them off for the past few weeks.
That is a very crittery morning. Too bad about the eggs, and here’s hoping for #75, who is not living his best life right now.
That is sad about the eggs. Yes, the circle of life, but definitely not a good part of it. I'm glad the fence is working. Your yard looks great.
So sorry about the loss of those eggs. Heartbreaking but as you wisely point out, the critters have to eat too. We had a Canada Goose pair nest on our little pond...this was a big first here. They have moved on now.
Red in tooth and claw indeed!
Too bad about the Wood Duck eggs. Sad to see.
Too bad about the Wood Duck egg:(
The interplay of creatures in your front garden, and elsewhere is always entertaining to this town-bound person. Glad you've thwarted the deer from garden salad, and fox as well as coyote going by the same area as well as Butch the racoon (I think) it's a well traveled area. Poor little #75 with acclimation to a daily meal and no exercise to speak of...not even trying to bury any extra nuts. But he's at least safe where you are helping him!
Nature is great but sometimes harsh.
I love your deer and your fox.
Sorry to hear about the eggs.
I'm glad the deer fence worked, what a relief to have that now. And I'm sorry about the eggs. Makes me sad too. Hugs!
It is indeed the circle of life - which ends so quickly for some.
Love your critters. And hooray for a working deer fence.
It is the cycle of life, but it doesn't make it easier ....
All the best Jan
and sadly the critters learn about other critters and what's good to eat.
So sorry to hear about the duck eggs. And how cool to get those trailcam shots of the fox and other critters.
