Saturday's Critters

It's been a busy spot! We've King Charles IV (8-point), Prince William (6-point), Prince Harry (2-point), and now King Frederick, who is a 12-point buck. They will lose their antlers this month or next, and we'll only be able to tell them apart from their behaviour.

On the front deck, I've been bird watching. The cardinal keeps going after the bird in the window. Jan. 19th there were three males, and one female. Our mated pair have been around all summer.

Down I went to the cedar corridor to fetch SD Cards. It required snowshoes! I had just fallen, having tripped in the snow, with the ice crust on top, and picked myself back up, laughing so hard.

Fuzzy Fawn came by, as well as a buck.

They really are beautiful critters, coyotes.

The fisher was on two trailcams!

Yes, rutting season is over. The fights are for practice, and for Frederick to show them who is boss. Frederick pushed Charles all along from behind the shed to where I could see them. I was filming them from the kitchen window, so I added some background music!

I love seeing all your deer images. You gave them great names too.
Silly cardinal, you would think they learn the reflection is not a real bird or rival. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a happy weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.

I have fallen on snowshoes in deep snow, and getting up was quite a procedure.

BIrds love to remind us why we have the expression “bird brain.” I love the way you named the deer who live around you.

I like their Royal names

King Frederick is maybe a bully, since he pushes everyone around. But oh what a beautiful creature he is. How many years old? Strange cardinal behavior, they often do that, but still you'd think that species would sometimes wise up!

I always wonder if I might run across some antlers in the forest. That would make my day! Love your photos and videos!

It would be nice if you can find some of the discarded antlers this year.

A very busy spot - which would keep me watching engrossed for hours and hours.

I hope Frederick lives up to his name sake, from Denmark, and do look up the family names,Prince Christian, now Crown Prince, then Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine,The youngest two are twins, and are now Knights of the Order of the Elephant. And if there is a lady in the deer family, Queen Mary is there waiting for her name to be included. I did enjoy the coyote walking through the deep snow.

I love how you have given names to the deer, such magnificent visitors. The cardinal made me chuckle. My sister-in-law has been telling us that one lands on her side mirror and pecks at his reflection. Videos are great with all those lovely animals. So glad you didn’t hurt yourself. The snow would have made for a nice fluffy landing I hope. Very enjoyable! Wishing you a super weekend.
