Fire in Ottawa

In a moment, your life changes. This is a detached house in Barrhaven, Ontario. It went up in flames on Friday.

Streets were closed, school busses rerouted, and families living near or on Sutcliffe had to pick their kids up at school. These houses are so close together. Sad that the house next door was partially burned.

Ottawa firefighters rescued 5 pets: 3 dogs, a cat and a rabbit, after the family got out safely. They even gave oxygen to the pets. One firefighter was hurt when the roof collapsed.
"OFS says the fire started in a garage of a single family home Friday at 23 Sutcliffe Terr. It has then spread to the house next door."

🏡 Caivan Development in Perth

It is interesting that Caivan is putting a development in on an island in Perth, Ontario. There is one road in and out. We have volunteer firefighters who travel in their own vehicles to a fire. Then if an ambulance needs to get in and out, disaster.

Only this week we learned that a flashing green light means that a volunteer firefighter is on their way to a scene and that one should pull over. We've lived in cities all of our lives until now, so we would not have experienced this. Well, we still haven't, not directly, but it did come up on FB.

So sad. And it started in neighbor's garage, no less. Maybe neighbor will take the family in. Not likely. I agree about single road access to that many homes...crazy. Glad the critters were rescued!

Scary stuff.

Fire does so much damage. And then what's left is ruined by the water needed to put out the fire. What a shame :(

Oh no, I'm so glad they all got out safely. I can't imagine how difficult that would be to lose your home :(

Yes, things can change very quickly. I am grateful to be safe and happy and wish you the same for you and all of our friends, Jenn. Aloha

It's frightening to think how quickly something can change and change one's life. I feel for the homeowners.

Heartrending. I am glad that the home owners and the pets were saved and hope the firefighter will be ok.

Always danger of fire in cold weather. People turn the heat up.

This is so darn spooky! And to have it happen mid winter makes it even worse.
