Chores & News

In hindsight, I'm glad I did these chores last week. This morning we've a nice dump of snow. Later I shall haul out the snowblower. My header matches current reality, again! I knew it would, eventually. I'll have to dig out the bird feeders. After coffee!

 Outdoor Chores

I had these branches to work on. Sadly, I ran out of energy. Not me, but the reciprocal saw batteries. I have two and rotate them.

I recharged both batteries, and went out the next day. The needles will go back into the soil. One chore done.

Indoor chores: weather stripping

Our front door has been leaking air. On a windy day, it whistles. 'Mind the gap!' We've a cold front that has moved in, I knew I had to get it done. It's been irking me for months.

I first replaced the door sweep last month, but I couldn't nudge it right up to the door jam. The door wouldn't close.

I girded my loins and headed into town and bought several items. This (below, right) is what did the trick, though. The red part is the sticky bit. Peel and stick.

The stuff in the green box is weird. It's putty that doesn't set. What's with this?

Tucking the new piece in, I screwed it in. It is attached by a glue strip, but I don't trust it. Aside from have to paint the door frame (yay, cats), I was relieved to get it done.

More news from Ottawa!

This isn't a chore, but a major shift in the universe. You'll recall grandie Josephine turned 16 in December. She practiced with Momma on our 100 m driveway (below, left). Last week, she passed the test for her learner's permit. She'll be able to drive with a licenced driver with her G1!

We used to joke about how fast they were growing. No more can we say, 'Next she'll be asking for the car keys." That time has come. Jose had her first in-class lesson Saturday. Their electric car is different, however. I've driven it once! It really is exciting.

Good work on the door frame! I have had bubble wrap across my bathroom window (this time including across the frame to catch those cracks which let the north wind blow in) but it came down with my second attempted taping. First scotch tape on that plastic like paint, then tried my very sticky masking tape, and it came down while I was away...don't know why since the house was heated. Anyway, yesterday I tackled it with some double sided tape, which stuck to my fingers really well, and so far it's holding the bubble wrap up and the bathroom is somewhat cozier.

lots of snow. Your are the top DIY gal, well done to get the seals inn place. Driving, I was 15 and 2 weeks when I passed mine,( had to wait that 2 weeks to prove I had been practising on the open roads rather than with a tractor on the paddocks !) a 3 gear manual car, and a necessity out in the country as my Mum didn't drive. But way back then not so much traffic, no hoons, and some roads were still metal.A boon for my Dad as I could then do more driving and he could stay on the farm.Keep warm.

The Grands grow up so fast don't they.
Our eldest Grandson passed his driving test last year, he now has his own car and really enjoys the independence it brings.
Well done to Josephine ... happy driving ahead.

All the best Jan

Good job on the new door seal. That stuff drives me crazy but has to be done every now and then. Our back door has too much play in it so it needs pretty thick weatherstripping and it doesn't last very long.

Kudos to the young person getting their learners permit. Son got his some time ago and we have been driving a lot. He does okay but starts doing funky stuff during his driving test and has thus failed twice. I ask him "why did you not stop at the four way stop?" He cannot really tell me.

I envy your snow. Here in Waterloo it is dull, grey and rainy most of the time - and we’re into the second week of January. I’d like my winter back, please.

We're due for some of that snow this week. I have to get to the store today to stock up on just a few things -- onions for soup, among them. Well done on your chores. I have a few to do myself here.

Definitely congrats to Josephine for turning 16 and passing her driving test. I still remember that feeling when I passed mine. Wishing her many happy adventures in her driving experiences. I'm impressed you doing all those chores. I'm looking around our place now, we have a few.
