Merrickville @1890.ca

We took a staycation trip to Merrickville, in Baldachin Inn in the bridal suite! It was a snowy day. We've more rain and snow, and the rivers are rising. My otter sighting was fun: River otter on the creek. The roads are affected by the freeze/thaw of the season. This isn't normal, as we usually freeze and maintain temperatures are fairly low. The bumps on the road are tricky.

Merrickville is a charming town. It has character. Large, thickly walled buildings made to last. No big box stores. No Timmy Ho's or fast food restaurants. The canal is a big draw, as well as many festivals over the summer and fall. At this time of year the stores are primarily open Fri./Sat./Sun., but a few shops are open the rest of the week. Thankfully!

We pushed on into town.  It was snowing, but a fine day. We still did some shopping.

What a lovely place: 1890.ca. Handmade soap and shower products, bubble bath bombs. All made there in their location on the main drag. I need smellovision for you to get the idea. We spent a bit of money! I'd make a poor living as a journalist, I didn't even ask their names. They are very tech-savvy, and are on social media. They are doing bath bomb workshops, too.

nothing better than a staycation these days...the US is not very appealing in these times. Maybe not even Quebec City come to think of it.

It looks so quiet, a lovely place to look at crafts and to stay. Icy roads!! Take care this week.

A good tourist town. We used to take company there, but since company never changes, we haven't been there for awhile.

Looks like you had a lovely time. I would have left the soap shop a bit poorer too!
