GRAMMA CAMP – Week 5.0

Perth has been pretty quiet.

Jos came out onto the back deck and got her socks wet. (We had 19 mm of rain, followed by winds.) She tried to toos her socks downstairs, and one stuck on the brick.

We had 4 games of Sorry, a couple of Uno.

There was an afternoon DVD.

Tacos for dinner

Isabelle helped me with dinner.
"Do you want to grate some cheese?"
"I'm great at it!"

I asked Isabelle to ring the Taco Bell for dinner! (That was Grampa's notion. He's such a card.) The puns flew.

The winds rolled in.

We watched The Voice with Jophee. Isabelle preferred to read.

We had a small emergency, as Izzy lost her sleep toy. It was found under  her blanket.

Rain had a good question. She's begun using wood pellets, after my post on the topic. [With kitties goes kitty litter] I have tools!
I'm having varied success. The wood pellets have lasted since January, but things have been crazy.

Earth Day Ditch Cleaning

Ontario roads
Driving Ontario roads, you see lots of brown grass. Much of the snow has gone, revealing a lot of junk in the ditch.

Many people I know go ditch cleaning. It makes a walk much nicer, rather than staring at human garbage.

Earth Day, April 22nd, is just a date on the calendar and I do this cleaning a couple of times a season.
32 plastic water or pop bottles, one visited by a snake!
How much junk?

Seems a whole bag of garbage fell off something.
10 water bottles, sanitary products, BBQ aluminum foil.
I hope they didn't just chuck it overboard.
Probably tourists...

Yep. 32 bottles
Fast food restaurants need to do something.
Wendy's 2, Tim Horton's 10, KFC 2, McD 3.
 A bag of garbage,
chip bags tossed out of the car window, gum wrappers...

I have to go out again, as there is stuff exposed by the melted snow.
On our first foray, I picked 5 beer bottles/cans and put them
on the road. They were gone when I returned!

Smokers are the worst! Can't tell you
how many cigarette butts I found!

One has to be careful. The traffic is fast.

They have 500m to pass, and do so right where Felix crosses the road.

Wish litterbugs would hibernate over winter

Between Wendy's and Timmy Ho's in Perth, we get a lot of garbage dumped overboard. We are one large coffee, or 1 1/2 hamburgers south of town!
This latest customer seemd to supersize his order: one iced tea and hamburger and cheeseburger, plus fries.

Wendy's hamburger dumped overboard

Bought it at 11 pm, chucked it out,
I found it the next day
After the snow melted, I did a major cleanup. April, 2011

And again in the fall, several bags full.
They rolled the rim
and chucked it overboard.
I emailed Wendy's to complain, heard nothing. I even put it out on Twitter, nada.

I shall have to go into the store...
Tim Horton's is the same. They need to come up with a strategy for challenging this issue.
We can't teach some how not to litter, but maybe there is a way to deter them.

Digging out after the storm

Everyone made it through the snow and wind!

Olive,
the other reindeer looks like a sheep!

Frosty O'Rourke all dressed up

But look, something in the driveway...
Doesn't it look pretty?

We KNEW we'd get more snow in February!
500 m of highway and they chuck it on our drive.
How far away are we from Wendy's in Perth? About 1 1/2 hamburgers and 1/2 a box of fries. The rest they chucked out of the truck. My regular readers know that I spend hours picking up garbage from the ditches, two or three times a season after the snow flies.

Two supersized orders with fries,
 and they didn't finish, either.

Wendy's Perth at 10:57 p.m.

Usually around Earth Day in April, we'd do a school project.

Look at the Wendy's containers we found.
As a teacher, we would collect schoolyard garbage,
sort it and graph it.
Do you know how many containers I have picked up?
At least a recycling bin, or two, and a bag of garbage, each time I go out. Criminal.
