Grandsitting Day 6: the morning

Fri., Aug. 4th

Last night, we watched Jeopardy, theteen competition. Jos kept score. Grampa won!

Then, we were up and ready for the last day at Gramma and Grampa's!

First breakfast course, Izzy made her usual parfait (Greek yogurt & granola); 2nd course, toast. Jam and marmalade. She popped two pieces in the toaster.

Isabelle, age 7:
"I know how toasters work, because I took our old toaster apart, theoretically, not literally."
TV morning, due to thunder and lightning: kid TV!
Wild Kratts, and Daisy decided to visit. She was playful. She found a catnip bag, and went for it.

When they come back, next week, Daisy should be a sure-fire companion, as much as Annabelle!

Breakfast on the back deck is a must. I love the Annabelle perch. She'll eat anything, so we have to watch her. Grampa was beside Izzy, on his chair. You can just see his knee.

They've been living in the basement. It's a perfect set-up. These little chairs unfold to beds.
The deal was, tidy up, and then watch one Wild Kratts show. Back downstairs to pack, and another show.

Josephine, the one who appreciates rules, suggested we pack at the same time, and then watch two shows in a row. Isabelle bought into this.

Then we went out to play, as it was getting hotter. After awhile it was time to get into the pool.

In the afternoon, at 3 p.m., we were headed to the Lombardy Fair. I only remembered hats, as we made it to the end of the driveway in the car. Back we go. It took me an' Josee 10 minutes to find them. I'd put something on top of them in the packing pile.
Tomorrow, the fair photos!
Today, the latest movies!
This was the last video they shot, almost entirely on their own. We edited it in iMovie. The only problem, using the camera, is it doesn't automatically focus, like the videocam.

Grandsitting Day 5

Thursday, Aug. 3

Breakfast, some planning, teeth and hair brushing, and off to the train museum. The option was going to a restaurant for lunch or going home, and they preferred to stick to our home routine!
We went to Rideau Ferry to rent a movie, thought about going to a park, but decided we were hungry.
Lunch on the back deck. Each girl happily made her own.
Swimming. Annie is never too far away. Jos found a weeny spring peeper.
Angry Birds Movie (It's a prequel to the game!)

We did Facetime after dinner. Momma was BBQing, Papa putting groceries away, but they had some fun!

Grandsitting Day 2

Monday, July 31st

Up at 9 a.m., Izzy made her own parfait, with a cherry on top. I was too late to photograph the cherry! "This would be a good place to have breakfast," she told me!
"Do you want me to make it, or do you?"
"I will."
She topped it with a cherry!

Next, we wrote and filmed a video. The video recorder is broken, so we have to use the camera. Pretty tricky.

Then, they decided to do another video. They wanted to go to a movie-making day camp, but it was full. We did it, instead!

We did some painting!

After lunch, Jos came to me and said that she could hear some scritching in their room. They are sleeping in the basement, and have a fun set up.
Down we went. Annie, you can see, was a character of the 2nd movie.

It was a bat. Jos ran out and fetched  the butterfly net, I grabbed a large book. I slipped the net under the bat and it  grabbed on to the net. Putting the book overtop the opening, I ran to the door, which Isabelle opened wide. The bat flew off and up into the pine tree. I think it had been stuck in the stove all night.

Dinner was hot dogs, just for fun. At dinner, we made lists of activities, then penciled them in for days of the week. Grampa has a doctor's appointment Tuesday. Next, we made lists of possible dinners we could have, and chose a couple for the next few days.

They wrote another play, after dinner, and videotaped it on their own! Grampa and I watched the news about the White House!
We girls spent prebedtime editing part of the new movie, then saved the rest for Tuesday. Here is a portion of the video!

Grandsitting Day 1

Sunday, July 30th

The kids slept over, and we eased ourselves into the day on Sunday. For the first time, the two girls slept in the basement, while Momma & Papa slept in the guest room.

Isabelle made herself a yogurt parfait, then toast.

First up, Foam Girls. After everyone had showers, we were dressed.

Next, a trip to the Ribfest in Perth. As we turned around to manoeuvre into a parking spot, the kids noticed that we had a flat tire. JL took JB into Canadian Tire to get a repair job done, while the girls went and play on the bouncy stuff.
Lemonade, to quench our thirst. Bouncy castles, and fun.

The men came back. We ordered a platter and dug in! It was quite hot. There were coffees, and banana splits after!

Face painting! Then, the old cars.

Home for a quiet time, a movie, Pete's Dragon, some stories, sandwiches, veggies & dip for dinner, and bedtime!  A bit of a Facetime with Momma & Papa, first, they were out for dinner, about to take in Dunkirk at the Imax! A good time had by all.

Bedtime was another Nebuchadnezzar story!
The music was fun.
