I have a Toby Jug! I didn't know what it was until we saw it as a clue on Jeopardy. The things we learn!
On the bottom, 'England,' and 'Bretby' markings. I found a book online, which describes them for collectors, but didn't bother finding out the provenance. My father's mum, a Brit, would bring us pieces from England when she visited. Dad was born there, came over with the family when he was two, and my grandmother went back to England when they were older.

We have a few keepsakes from my mother and grands but no Toby jug.
I used to collect Toby heads, and yes, they hung on the wall. My many children used to call them their fathers! It was hilarious when people would come to the house and one or the other would point out : This fellow is S. father and that one is J. father and this guy is my Daddy".
He is probably a Collector's Piece, and a jigsaw to match. I took way too long to get it finished.
I've never heard of them before!
I love your Toby Jug
All the best Jan
I like it! And quaint as we all know the British....:)
I've never seen one of these.
Amazing what one can learn from watching Jeopardy! I have seen those jugs. I actually had a small one but it somehow got lost in my moving a couple years ago.
I think Mom has that one in her collection. I'll have to look when I go back to Bellingham. The Toby Jugs are on the tops of cabinets around the dining and living room. In her former house my dad had built shelves around the family room just for her collections. - Margy
