We've had fun trying to identify the deer in our yard. The females we ID by the number of yearlings with them. In winter, they get into groups. They move into their winter yards, which, essentially, is the forest surrounding us.
Currently, we have a group of six who hang out regularly. I can spot their beds in the night, where 3 or 4 will sleep near to one another. There is safety in numbers.
They wander about the front yard all day and night.
Currently, our buck population includes a 3-year-old (more or less!) with only one antler remaining.
One we call Double-pickle stabber, a young buck.
Then, of course, there is Tigger, the king of the forest. He came out in the daytime yesterday. I think he knows that hunting season is over!

Wonderful photos of the deer. Tigger is a magnificent animal. Your cats must enjoy all the activity outside your windows. So much to watch.

beautiful photos Jenn! My husband's friend has this deer hunting video that he is so proud of, I can't even bear to watch it. At least the meat is used.

You're so lucky Jenn. Having the deer and then having time to identify them individually. Over here there would never be time to do that with wild deer as they are just too wild.
Hello!:) To be able to see deer in your yard is a precious gift. They are lovely creatures, and these are wonderful shots. I agree with you about zoos, but on the whole they are better places than they used to be,... with lots of land for the animals, and hopefully the day will come, when zoos no longer exist.

Lovely animals, the deer! God loves them for sure. He gave them a great sense of hearing and smelling, and the ability to run and swim fast.

I remember when my parents lived in Muskoka, the deer were quite often around during the winter, to the point where they'd rest for the night in the yard. They'd help themselves to the fallen birdseed as well.
