The herons are leaving us soon!

I'd forgotten about this old video. Someone made a nice comment. Most are not!
This was taken lakeside at our old home in Bala.
I wonder if the berm is still there.

I love it when it is peaceful and the big birds come to see us. This one was trying to capture a meal. She walked around the berm, trying to get a good foothold. It is amazing seeing her wing span as she tries to keep her balance. She pretends I was not watching. By the end of the video, she moved quite close to me.

Thank you for sharing the heron video. What a treat. I could happily hang out in that peaceful scene forever. I noticed about half way through the video a log doing a fine alligator impression. Excellent!

Cheers,

Florence

Thanks for this. We didn't see all that many herons here, this year. And only a couple of times up close. Last year they were everywhere.

Gracefully and silently, she stalked among the tall grasses, this is so lovely, I can imagine being right there, Jennifer, you captured it all perfectly. Jean.

Herons are amazing in that they are rather ungainly and unattractive. They are incredibly fast when catching prey so I like to watch them.

The epitome of patience! They'll wait for hours. (And I'm talking about the heron ... but you were quite patient yourself and it paid off beautifully).

I've always liked herons, particularly that focus and patience about them. I last saw one here a couple of weeks back, but that's it for the winter.

You've given me an idea for my post tomorrow!

She finally caught a fish! It was delightful to watch her. How wonderful to have this in your back yard when you lived there.

William pointed the way to your blog. Enjoyed the video very much - always a privilege to see wild creatures. I can't decide whether herons are graceful or ungainly, though!

I'm not sure when or if our herons leave. I still see them down at the marina and up in Hole in the Wall by the cabin. - Margy
