It's a flying squirrel. They are nocturnal. I turned the deck lights on and it froze!
None of us knew we had any around until this month. I made a video of it feeding! It must be ADHD. Just a hoot! Oops, that's an owl. It was, actually, wordless. Didn't budge for the 10 min. that I took several photos. The cats were itching at the door.
FanTAStic! Brilliant shots! We have them here - we put out nuts for them - but I could never get close enough for a photo, let alone at night. Yay for flying squirrels!
Aren't they?! Wee, small and furry. Very shy. It sat there for many minutes, with the cats peering out the door at them, like a deer in the headlights.

Happy WW!
Is that a squirrel?
Something seems weird about it.

Sorry, Jenn. They're not like bats. They are quite timid and smaller than your hand. ADHD little critters bopping around.
Thanks, JMS, after 3 winters here (summers since 1960!), I had no idea they were in this habitat!
I think they're cute.

Oh you lucky devil! I love these guys but have not been able to capture one yet.
