We had a mission...

We were heading out for dinner, while the school busses were bringing the kiddies home from school. Such a familiar sight!

An early dinner, when things are quiet.

I was a bit surprised to see these machines! You can read the menu, pay your bill, we just relied on our server!

As we went to dinner, I saw people working in the fields harvesting pumpkins. On the way home, there they were, bringing the pumpkins to the farm!

This is where we were headed. Miller's Bay Farm. On the way home, we stopped for Thanksgiving pumpkins.

There was pressure, as the kids were coming. I thought Peter ought to be following the brief: it is Autumn!

Peter put all his eggs in one basket. I thought I could better than that! Gourds from the farm.

I'm still watering my cherry tomato plant and the hanging basket of petunias, but they won't last too much longer.

I decorated a pie pumpkin with turkey, barred owl, and blue jay feathers. We were in Ottawa last year for Thanksgiving. This year the kids were coming here from Ottawa.

This morning it is a chilly one. Only 3 ℃ we'll bundle up.

Tuesday was an amazing day. I opened up the door and let the fresh air in. Might as well enjoy it while it lasts. We were to have a warm day, and then a deep freeze. This morning is is -12℃. after falling very quickly during the afternoon. More on that later.

I was supposed to have a client, but they had to cancel. I spotted a photo of one of my favourite clients, I was with her for 3 years. I used to do her nails for her. We had fun, and I miss her spirit. She wanted bright red nail polish, but some of her kids said it was inappropriate!

JB suggested we go out for lunch, since I was all dressed. I like to dress in cheery colours for my clients.

The sky was lovely, the snow cover about half gone.

Down at the marina, the boats are in their coats. The water on top of the ice shows the warmth.

The geese are flying in small groups. It's a bit early for them, as the water isn't thawed and there is little food. This was a drive-by shooting, from my car window!

The snow machines sit dejectedly on the bare lawn waiting to be put away for spring.

We thought we'd try Boston Pizza. It was nice and quiet. A patio overlooking a parking lot...maybe not.

The parking lot was interesting.

It is a strange place for this truck to park. We had to drive around them. The woman said it was her husband waiting for her??!!

From there we went to Motts Mills. The roads were muddy in spots.

Trip to Muskoka – Part 6 Gravenhurst Hotel & Market

Tues., June 25

We made it to Gravenhurst. We were staying at the Residence Inn Marriott. You may recall, we had trouble securing the room.

We watched the hotel being built, back in the day.

You pay for a room with a view and less for a room without a view. This was the view from our hotel balcony. We tried when we registered, and they said they were booked solid.

The marine museum and marina are behind the oak tree. Honest. Sometimes you get a waft of Boston Pizza on the wind.

There are condos in the back 40. They must have been disappointed when they put up the hotel and spoiled their view!

We've had many a meal on Muskoka Wharf in the bay.

My they have grown.

We went with Boston Pizza, a little less pricey than the no-name restaurant beside it, whatever the name is. We had a frige in the room, and I saved some dinner for another day.

Wed., June 26

JB went for his morning half-hour walk. I doddled, then decided to climb the rock. The Precambrian Shield is so beautiful.

Next stop: Gravenhurst Market

They have a market on Wednesday mornings.

Have you tried cashew cheese? It is amazing, if you cannot tolerate other cheese.

Linda Hyrnyk was there. We bought our first birdbath from her 2003-ish. Sadly, our movers broke it when we moved into the house.

Metalwork

Anderson Produce is a food reseller. It's a shame seeing them at market, as this stuff isn't necessarily Ontario produce. There was a discussion about this by our local Lanark County farmers. It takes away from local, small town, or rural producers.
