While our election is over, there are signs that things aren't going to settle out anytime soon. This is the problem with those who run on egos, not principles. We thought we'd gotten rid of PP, the Leader of the Opposition, but he's asked to have a new election, in a safe riding in Alberta. We don't elect a Prime Minister, but a party majority.
An MP has resigned his seat to leader the CPC leader. This means that Albertans are going to lack an MP, as PP is never in his riding, or going to debates, or showing up for citizens other than the convoy people. He never showed up to a debate in his former Carleton riding. We think some Conservatives in this riding know this. Let's hope...
Some are angry. They have wild ideas. We welcome immigrants, most of us. We purport to be a tapestry of humans not a melting pot. We embrace diversity. We need workers and newcomers. Our society is richer for it.
This dude ↑ seems to be inspiring other idiots.
Robert Fife says Prime Minister Mark Carney's 🇨🇦 first speech was the best Prime Minister speech in over a decade. "He's not here for his ego, he's here to build this country."
Last year, and for many years, Phoebe has nested on this repurposed shelf. The nest was very old, and I removed it. They are rebuilding.

They have begun nesting! First, a small circle of moss, then it got larger.

I checked May 2nd, and it is now a little nest, with a lovely bowl shape.

In our major clean up, I had to throw out an old spinner. I've painted and repainted it, but it had its day. We've a dump run to do when we have the energy. The parts are falling apart! We've a dump run planned after I clean out the shed.
Where did the orange come from?! I'm sure there are genetics involved. Or the faeries.

This home and cinder block garage are now gone. I wonder what will go up here. Joe drove by one day and saw them bulldozing.
It's a wonderful time of year for birding. They are all calling for mates, or to announce their territory.
I stepped out onto the back deck around 6 a.m. Merlin could ID the
Bittern, their sounds are amazing! They have a strange call, in order to call in dense wetland.
I spotted one on the road once upon a time! (May 6th, 2013)
I don't think this is good for the screen, but I'm not sure I have the heart to take it off!

Carney in Canada, Albanese in Australia...two countries that at least managed to turn the tide... I envy you the Bittern and the Phoebe... and those tulips! YAM xx
That sign White Lives Matter. Fine, all lives matter don't they?
What the heck with PP? Perfect name for him BTW.
It sounds like something the orange clown would/has done.
Birdsong is so nice, as are the tulips, as isn’t PP.
Pretty Tulips!
It’s always interesting to hear your reflections on the state of politics, especially when it seems like change is so slow and uncertain. The frustration around leadership and the lack of real engagement with citizens is something that seems to be a recurring issue. It’s great to see your passion for welcoming immigrants and embracing diversity, as these are values that help build a stronger and more vibrant society.
I also love how you’ve shared the story of Phoebe and her nesting process. Nature’s little rituals always bring a sense of peace and continuity, don’t they? It's lovely to see how she’s returning to the same spot to rebuild and make her home once again.
The tulips you mentioned are such a beautiful example of how time changes everything, even in the smallest of ways, like the orange hue that unexpectedly appeared. It makes me wonder if the faeries were involved, too!
And the bittern call is truly something special. The way you describe it makes me wish I could hear it myself. It's those moments of connection with the natural world that can really bring a sense of calm.
By the way, I just published a new blog post about a book review on Body Confident You, Body Confident Kid, and I would love to hear your thoughts on it! You can find it here: https://www.melodyjacob.com/2025/05/body-confident-you-body-confident-kid-book-review.html. Looking forward to hearing what you think
Aren't the spring birds intense this year? Or maybe I'm just listening more and have my streaming music off (classical). Great nesting there. And your orange tulip is a real botanical marvel!
Beautiful photos. I laughed 😅 when you said the dude was inspiring other idiots. So true.
Do you remember the Canada 150 Tulips that Home Hardware sold? I bought several packs for myself and family who garden. Well they didn't bloom to the expected color that year, or the next. They were all colors. I think last year I finally had the white shot with red show up. Plant genetics are sure interesting. I grew two varieties of beans last year. One was yellow, one purple. I've saved seed to plant this year and I'm interested to see what we grow as they no doubt cross pollinated.
I love to hear the birds at this time of year.
Besides eating some tulip bulbs, I think my squirrels picked up a couple and reburied them in spaces where I didn't plant tulips. Linda in Kansas
Sounds like he takes a note from DT's playbook. "Elections where I lose are rigged." I agree with you on immigration and the richness they bring to our culture. What's happening here breaks my heart.
Cool to see a Bittern visiting. Love the flowers and yard art.
Take care, have a great day and happy week ahead.
I wonder where the orange flower came from. Interesting. I love seeing birds nests. Baby birds are so awesome.
ALL lives matter. That guy sounds like our president with his mass deportation beliefs. He should be deported, not immigrants!!
Hooray for birds. And tulips. Love that interloper orange.
We seemed to have rejected Trump Lite here in Australia for which I am very grateful. We need more kindness and diversity. Not less.
I like the camouflage bitterns have.
First of all, loving your nest and your beautiful flowers and garden decorations. As for the other, we know all about egos down here. I am learning more about your politics because of your blog posts. Thank you for the learning experience.
Just watched Mr Carney's interaction with President Trump and think that he did quite well. It was not impossible to see what he was thinking. I am with you on PP - the ethical thing to do was quit since his own riding rejected him.
Oh, boy, that Trump guy is seriously mentally deficient. I am scared for ua and scared for the USA.
