There are days I feel more like Ms. Break It, rather than Ms. Fix It, or Ms. Maintenance! I noticed ice on the drain spouts. With our melt beginning, I'll have to clear them.
I made it around the house to check on the down spout. It was frozen solid, which isn't good with possible rain on the way. (We had a bit of rain, BTW, not a lot.)
When I went back the next day to fix it, I thought my snowshoe path wouldn't require actual snowshoes. HAH! Right up to my knees. Back to fetch them and pop them on.
The green hose has a lovely cylinder of ice in it. In summer this goes into a rain barrel, and into the goldfish pond. I took it off, and lay it on the ground. It'll melt and I can reattach.
Back on Tuesday, after it melted some, I got it reassembled.
The propane tanks had to be cleared off. Another job done. We're at 65% full, so we're good for now.
No good deed goes unpunished. Ms. Fix It Break It did it again. I repeated my action here, and the whole pipe is frozen with a cylinder of ice. It'll have to melt.
From there, down to the highway to clear out the pond that accumulates at the end of the driveway in a thaw. I put salt on it, to open up the drainage onto the grass.
Back the next day, and a lot is melted. Yippee.
We were seeing 4 turkeys for weeks. In the past week, only two. We wondered if the coyotes got a couple. Not so. One does get attached to the wild critters!

There has been much dripping and slushing.
The thaw/freeze of this time of year absolutely sucks. We do not have gutters, but they are on my list of things to do. The deer certainly have found your yard, so cool to watch aren't they?

Talking of maintenance, I need to find out why my back door has decided to spring a leak... trouble is I need to wait for it to stop raining so I can open up to find out! YAM xx
Love the deer and turkeys. Yes, I get attached to the wild critters.
Take care, enjoy your day!
Glad the drainage of driveway pond was successful. Hope you don't have to snowblow it any more this year. But I've heard March can have snow, at least in other places where snow happens. So glad the 4 turkeys are still there, as well as your deer!
A homeowners work is never done.
I tried to shovel some snow off the porch yesterday, It is SO HEAVY! The gas man was just here. I'm afraid to go pull the slip from the mailbox.
I'm impressed with all the work you do, especially in the cold! Good job.
Almost time for spring!
That is a lot of hard work. Our snow is melting fast and draining to the creeks. Flat places are mud and north facing hills are ice.
You did a great job in cleaning and fixing things.
At Lake Tarawera, where we lived some time ago, a friend had a well designed home, he was from Europe, and instead of down pipes, had very heavy thick chain links going from the spouting to the ground. Guess there would be splashes during a heavy downpour, but from memory they were not near windows. Always work to do when the snow freezes or melts. Hope you don't have to clear the pathway too soon.
This sounds like a lot of work but I know I sure would love to have some of your snow and turkeys and deer. Hoping you get all the ice and snow cleared away with no issues...I love seeing all the photos...Stay safe and stay warm..
Melting and warming up is here too!
I imagine there's a lot of maintenance to do when it rains and freezes.
Goodness, woman's work is never done. So glad the other two turkeys turned up. Have a great rest of your week.
You have so much energy and home-fixing/maintenance ability it just blows my mind.
