Daycation; search for birds

We've had slushy snow, in this warm weather. This is March weather, or even April! Even Daisy isn't impressed. She stopped on the path and refused to budge. It's not good for snowshoeing, as the snow is too heavy.

We took a trip. The idea was to find some different birds, and some open water. We found snowmen. Some nice buildings. A little farther south, and southeast, there isn't much snow cover. This does not bode well for spring planting.

The roads were slushy, like fudge. Poor JB, driving! Spotted some more solar farms.

We finally spotted some birds. This was a huge swarm of blackbirds! This is a good sign.

We stopped at a local creek. I wanted to check in on this body water. It is the same body of water that has the river otters. Our ecosystems are amazing. There are some farm geese and ducks there. I wasn't sure if they would be out, but they were! They live on the property at the edge of the creek.

The geese are grey lag geese. The ducks are a domestic breed. The crested duck is a breed of domestic duck. It was probably brought to Europe from the East Indies by Dutch ships.[1]:413

They were ice fishing on Big Rideau, despite the big thaw~

It feels like winter is over, but it sure didn't feel like it last week. I'm sure we'll have a few more snowfalls and even cold spells, but the worst is behind us. The new falls should disappear fairly quickly. Of course, I could be stupid and wrong.

Hello, winter is not over yet. I like the crested ducks, cute.

Enjoy your day and the weekend ahead!

How could people be so silly to go out there when the ice is slushy and melting? Solar farms, do those panels swivel? Lovely little staycation, so glad you manage that once in a while.

The panels DO swivel to follow the sunshine! It's amazing technology!
We had another vacation yesterday! We went to Kingston.

The geese are a pretty sight! We've still got a good deal of snow in the city, despite the above zero temperatures. I don't think winter's done with us yet, but I think we've seen the last of skating on the canal for this season.

I've never seen a crested duck like that before. Very unusual. - Margy
