Saturday's Critters

🐀 I've noticed more action on the cameras. We'll begin with miniFred! She's returned after being somewhere. And has been hanging out in the burrow under the deck. This space under the deck floods in Spring melt, and I think the burrow does, as well. She returned Sept. 6th, for some reason. She seemed a bit sleepy, being a true hibernator, she didn't seem inclined to do any digging. We'd had cooler weather. I just didn't know what to expect.

Sept. 9th, she sat there chewing and wagging her tail!

I decided to cover the lower deck burrow (#3) since she moved to the shed burrow (#2).

The rocks at the entrance were sheltering large and small ant nests with eggs! And a centipede.

I feel so much better a bout this. It's 12:30 p.m. and she just poked her head up out of the hole by the shed. I'd sorta covered it, so as not to trip on the hole, but she will be better there under the shed.

After being very quiet she seems to have a burst of energy, bringing leaves to build a nest. I have a theory, that she's come back for winter, where she was born. The same way Fred disappears each August.

The skunk has been active on the driveway.

The skunk visited the burrow, but stayed up top.

Even Butch raccoon had to have a peek in the hole.

Bad news in Jeanie-Land. I now have my own Fred. We'll call him Michi-Fred. Burrowing under the house. Not sure what to do!

MiniFred sounds like such a character! 🐀I love how you notice all her little habits — from chewing and tail wagging to bringing in leaves. Nature’s drama right under the deck, with ants, centipedes, skunks and even a raccoon checking things out — wow! We don't have raccons here in the Netherlands. So I love to see it.

Thanks for sharing these wonderful updates, it always makes me smile.

Great to see and consider changes in Mini-Fred's life! And you share your deck with so many critters! (Not at the same time at least!)

Lots of action with the cameras.. Good that mini Fred moved under the shed, and that you covered over the hole under the deck.

lots of company!! Glad she is back and do you think Fred will be back? My youngest daughter and husband have discovered a skunk underneath their shed. They haven't been able to let the dogs outside to play because of the skunk..hopefully they can get rid of it soon.

Hello Jenn,
I do not think I would like having a skunk on my deck.
Cute captures of your Fred and family.
Thank you for linking up and sharing your critter post. Take care, have a great weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.

It's easy to worry about the safety of the critters.

I hope she winters well and returns to bring joy again next spring.

As always, enjoyed the videos. When we lived in ranch country Oklahoma, I always checked the perimeter with a flashlight before I let Gus out in the dark. Since he sleeps with us, worried he would be 'skunked'. :)

Jenn, do I have to worry if my Fred is digging a burrow under the house? Can they mess up foundation?
