Crumbly Acres

I wanted a swim. It was Saturday, and 34 ℃! I packed my little bag, and headed to the car. The battery was dead. Poopies. Calling CAA, which we need in rural locations, they sent someone from Smith Falls. It took about an hour. I like how they set up a text messaging, and the operator's truck info is on a link, you can see where they are. This is good use of technology.

He attached his battery pack, and the car was going. I think I left a light on, but forgot to check it after I'd come in. I'd bonked it with my hand, getting out of the car the day before. How dumb! Anyway, I was mobile, again.

After that, I headed to the beach. By then, it was 4 pm, and I hoped the beach might be quieter. Not so! It was packed. One family with a big tent, wall-to-wall kidlets. Which is fine for them. I need my peace and quiet. I did crowd control with kids for too many years.

It's $10 to park there, but I chose not to. There was no parking let for the boat launch. People were out fishing. I headed home for a quick shower.

Drownings have been bad this year. One person jumped out of a canoe at Silver Lake Park, and did not resurface alive. I feel badly for city people who don't understand the risks they take.

CBC Ottawa is now aware of 20 deaths that have occurred on local waterways in 2025, including 14 of them this summer. (Water safety top of mind in Ottawa as drownings mount)

We're still looking for rain. I got all excited Saturday, as the clouds were coming for us! They were headed east, straight for us!

By Sunday morning, this is what I could see! Just about nothing!

Look at my ferns! They will come back next year.

I am happy to report, just as I thought I'd visit the beach on Sunday after fetching groceries, it was raining. A great big 6 mm, but rain.

Staring out the back, I spotted a coyote beside the shed. It ran across the back yard. Gone. Fooled him! Fred, I think, has gone to her winter burrow.
