Charlie spider & Susie snake

 🕷️Just for fun, Charlie was on the move. I was worried about her. Her 🕸️ web was damaged, and she disappeared from above the hanging tomato planter. I spotted her above the steps!

It was a tricky spot to navigate. This is what iPhotos says she is: Araneus.

I didn't think that a good spot↑. She was right over the step and on the metal, having trouble negotiating it. I was able to just reach her with the bug catcher, and move her to the tree frog ledge up in the corner. (Installed by the previous home owners, I might add!)  She didn't like it, and moved to above the door.

She was still there, Sat., Sept. 23, and this morning. 

It is a busy spot, the front deck. My Mother's day hanging basket is still doing well. There was a moth beside it. 

Joseph Brian is doing morning walkies outside, around the house, and was looking for a replacement battery for the stop watch↓. He visited several stores in town, but none had it. One young man in a hardware store asked if he had a computer at home. Then, he asked if Joe had heard of Amazon. What a little turd! 

The wooly bear caterpillars are looking for winter shelter. There were several on the driveway.

I was looking at more dead trees I have to chop up and move off the path near the shed. I found a snake. Now, it could be a black snake, but I think it was a more aggressive water snake as it tried to attack me several times. It's difficult to snap a photo when you are laughing. 

It would coil up and launch itself at me. Bold little thing, uncomfortable on land methinks. It'll be looking for winter shelter, as well.

This is our new little aspen grove at the back of the property. It is coming along nicely. The previous owners kept mowing this area, but I've been leaving it.

We sat out with Cinnamon and Nutmeg. They didn't go far. 

I thought I'd had my last rose, but another is budding! Yay!

 

I'm still working on 🍁Fall chores, as well as trying to plan a new 🏡 bathroom sink. I created a page to ponder my options.

 Google knows! I was doing my morning Waffle puzzle, and look what came up. Items on my Rona wish list.

Doe, a deer, and a buck

In the front yard! She didn't like Hooper staring at her. She has deerflies and ticks on her.



Hooper and I were watching through the front window. Hooper was lobbying for breakfast at the time. She was stomping her feet at him.



Susie snake is back. Daisy loved Susie Snake. My late father always called the snakes 'Susie.'


Usually, they go after the frogs, but we only have one in the pond. There are a lot of insects for the snakes, though.


The water lily has finally bloomed!

I think she is covering the garden. I've come across here several times.


Here she was sunning herself on the bottom step. There was another hanging around the back deck, in the lilac tree. I nearly stepped on her. They can be unexpected!

I have a milkweed plant climbing through the bench! I don't think it is worth moving the bench. The milkweed are in bloom.

Down that way, a buck!


Here he is in motion. JB was reading on the back deck, by the time I fetched him, the buck was a white tail, bouncing away on Oliver's Lot in the tall grass.

Ottawa Tornado, the goldfish pond and Susie Snake

Autumn is here. There is snow out west, (Red told me!), but they are hardy folks! Snow is falling in Northern Ontario, as well. After the winds and rain, this is the way she goes.


In the meantime, both Ontario Hydro and Ottawa Hydro are bringing people back up onto the power grid. First Responders are still out there, especially the OPP. Chainsaws are being fired up, and people are being warned. Food safety is an issue, the freezers thawing. Ontario has Disaster Recovery Assistance. Police are givings warnings:

As we enter day two of recovery, take care of yourself, take your time cleaning up and please check on your neighbour.

There were two tornadoes, F3. Gatineau, as well as Ottawa (Arlington Woods, Craig Henry, Greenbank Rd.: places where I lived),  and people are either evacuated, being put up by Red Cross, or repairing.

I used to live near Greenbank Rd., this is startling! One guy spent two hours on the phone waiting for his insurance company to answer the phone.

We sincerely wish we could provide restoration times for all of you. As soon as we know, we will post. Ottawa's electricity grid has not sustained such extensive damage since the Ice Storm of 1998. Back in the day, when I was a kid, whenever a snake turned up at the lake Mom and Dad would call it Susie Snake. The tradition of naming critters continues.
I watched her for awhile. She began on the far side, then skootched under the rocks to the end of the pond. I sat on a stool and watched her.

She was not too confident in snatching a froggie. Maybe it was me watching her! She did this weird head wagging.

The goldfish pond did well, after 34 mm of rain (1.3") over two days. The rainfall flowed from the roof, into the water barrel, into the pond, refreshing and flowing.
The first photo was from 2011. The rest are from a couple of days ago, Friday.


In preparing for the big winds, I took down the patio umbrella. A tree frog needed to be encouraged to go its way. It landed on the tabletop.
