Darou-McPherson Farmhouse

 🏘 Darou-McPherson Farmhouse

I've been watching the old farm house. Darou barn dismantled <= First they took down the old barn. Then they took away the stones of the house. Dr. Warren Hollis was going to rebuild it in Lombardy🗞 (2013). I don't know what happened with that. He was going to enlist Algonquin College masonry students.

They couldn't take down the shed (↓on the left), since barn swallow (an endangered species) used it as a nest site. They had to wait until the shed fell down.

We went into town on Thursday, and noticed that the shed had collapsed.

JB went into town Saturday, and noticed that they took it all down and hauled away the debris.  The little shed, which must house electricity sources, is still there.

It's a great spot, but the dump is behind it, beyond the trees, and they now let people walk their dogs around the field. Good for people from town.

We have had 16 ℃ last week, and -2 ℃ overnight, puffy cotton ball clouds flying by. The winds are from the cold north, hence the cool down.

I cannot complain, since there are tornadoes and storms in the southern US!

Turkeys, new decor

I had this post prepared last week. Stuff happened, mostly a few snowstorms! We've had snow for a week. Just a skiff, most days.

Oct. 26th

Turkeys in the forest, leaves shushing, a gentle gobble, gobble... you have to imagine it. There isn't any sound! I thought you'd enjoy the photo series. It's covered in snow, now!

Oct. 29

We had rain on and off Monday, Oct. 29th. I chopped up some dead branches, felled by the snow storm, Oct. 28th. I'm ready for new decor. I shoved the pine branches into the planters. Since then, the petunias and the alyssum gave up the buscuit, but it looked pretty good. Scarecrow has gone into the garage.

This is Daisy's Christmas tree, the one she burned her tongue on. Melted candles, and all. It was a hot summer!

Speaking of Daisy, we had a miracle. After a week on drugs, we just put her on a new one. That said, we've been keeping her in if Hooper is out, and vice-versa. She is slightly less aggressive, and came in from outside, and just walked past him.
This morning, they were dancing in and out of the bathroom, taking positions, whilst hubby shaved.  I am crossing my fingers and taking my anti-anxiety drug!

Down in the forest, the deer have been using my foot prints as a track. They often use my tracks this way. It saves them energy in the deep snow.

The frog pond is nice and wet, filling with ice and snow.

Yesterday morning, Nov. 19th, poor deer is chomping weeds, still standing in the snow.

Back in November, 2017

I've been taking photos of the old DAROU Farmhouse deconstruction.  The building has been bought, and is being moved to Lombardy. It had some issues. They want to use the land.

Nov. 19th

Hubby stopped on the way home to take a photo of the latest deconstruction.

Darou-McPherson Farmhouse

First they took down the old barn.

The Darou-McPherson farmhouse is being dismantled. Hubby had noticed they'd begun taking the farmhouse apart. Photos are required!

They have had some issues, as swallows  (an endangered, protected species) had moved into the summer kitchen, while council decided what to do about the building. It's a long process.

Here are my previous posts:
Barns and farm houses -they're ubiquitous (Nov. 2013)

The roof was a bit of a mess.

Anyway, they are taking it down to move it to Lombardy, apparently. There were arguments about its heritage value. It's a common design in our region.
Hubby noticed what was happening and said we should take a look.

Sunday, Dec. 4th.

Wed., Dec. 6th

Hubby took these for me! It must be cold work today. The wind is blowing and it is cold.

Thursday, Dec. 7th

I had my client in the afternoon, since our furnace died, I'm keeping the home fires burning. Hubby went into town to take photos for me. All the stones are marked!
