Trailcam Tails

I am so behind on posting videos. We have stopped feeding deer. They have lots to eat now.

The turkeys have pretty much disappeared. In years past they would amble around with their harems, in full mating display.

This tree sparrow was scrambling for bugs. The cats make this kind of move when we play! Maybe you aren't as keen as I, but I like seeing their little hop-scratch-search!

The Skunk is still roaring up and back down the driveway. I am curious about the location of its home!

Lastly, a porcupine. It looks a bit smallish. Maybe a young one?!

#75, or rehabbed and released black squirrel, has been teasing cats!

The cats have had their tick/flea, etc., meds.

I hope that helps with lots of horrific news out there. We had good news, in that we now have a majority government led by Mark Carney. We shall see what unfolds.

Amazingly, the three new MPs are women, and 2 of them are women of colour. This is Canada.

Deer and turkeys

We usually have visitors under the bird feeder in the morning.

Yes, these lights are still up. We've had such dreary, cloudy days, it makes me feel happy at night.

After the single doe, a trio. It looks like Momma and twins.

I love how they end up looking in the same direction at the same time.

I was quite amazed with this action shot! They move so fast.

The two black squirrels are sharing. For now.

Clean up on Aisle 1!

We've had a trio of turkeys appear. And disappear. Happily they are wary. Some in the city get bold.

Saturday's Critters

We have critters on the move! During the drought, things were pretty quiet out there. I am happy to report lots of them are on the trailcam. Some both come and go, maybe a day or two apart, others rush by headed for somewhere!

Cinnamon and I went down to fetch the memory cards. Just for fun, I videotaped Cinnamon as I asked him about going 'walkies!' He also knows the word, 'dinner!'

 I found our porcupine.

We haven't seen the fawn since I spotted it on the Crumbly Acres camera, just after it was born out front.  Here they are in the forest at the frog pond trailcam.

Fisher Otter Aug. 16  I think Jim is right!

Then there is the skunk!I love that bushy tail.

Crumbly Acres Crocus

The trailcam watching the dock has been fun. So far, a hawk, and some people and a cat doing Walkies.

Caitlin and Jean-Luc were doing a pond visit on the weekend!

Spring flowers!

I cleaned the goldfish tank. I had a helper. He had a drink of water when he leapt up onto the tank top.

The birds are slowly migrating back here to Ontario. I've seen so many birds returning: Phoebe is quite noticeable. Lots are calling for mating season.

I saw 6 hens and a Tom turkey in full mating mode. They strut and are so funny. This is an archive from 13 years ago! I was downstairs and spotted them.

Looking out of the bathroom window, I spotted two hermit thrush. This is an archive photo, since by the time I would have fetched the camera, they were gone.

Saturday's Critters

We'll start with a skunk and a mouse! Our Vancouver grandies are in a Panto for December. They posted a photo for us. They are in rehearsal. Both their parents are trained actors, so it makes sense.

Saturday's Critters

It was a cold start to the day Friday. Our second frost.

The fisher is a regularly irregular visitor!

Out front, the buck was working on both the Dogwood and the Hosta!

It was fun seeing Butch raccoon in the daytime!

 Also, two turkeys.

I set up the bird feeder. Everyone is happy about that.

Saturday's Critters

We are enjoying the last of the critters. Soon they will hunker down. The tree frog likes the camera. This was an unusual spot!

Aug. 10th - a buck

Porcupine is so cute!

For some reason it visited the dock!

Then there was a cottontail in the forest.

Butch, on two trailcams, eating grubs.

 And the coyote:

The turkeys are out in the forest.

The fisher came by on both trailcams.

Saturday's Critters

What a week it was. This morning we woke to several cm of snow. This morning it is -7℃ and a tad cold. It'll melt this week, as we expect above zero temperatures.

Barred owl has been a regular visitor! This was March 14.

I went back the next day and found an owl pellet! I dissected it to find out what s/he has been eating. Probably a vole!

They eat a critter, and cough up the bones mixed with fur in this pellet.
Archie has been around!

He was on the same path as two coyotes!

The fox turned up, briefly!

Saturday's Critters

The weather has been strangely warm for March. We've had some rainstorms come in, which helps to melt the ice and snow. I'm not sure that is a good idea, but this is Climate Change. We had much more snow last year to protect flora and fauna. None this March. This weather what usually happens in April, not March. Warm sunshine, with cold overnight temperatures. The maple tree sap is flowing!

The deer are massive leapers! I chose the thumbnail for the height of its leap. March 9th.

I went walkies and they were hiding behind the trees, watching me for danger.

The same day, in the dark.

coyotes Mar 9 from Jennifer Jilks on Vimeo.

They are the funniest critters, wandering in their long lines.

The skunk is awake, and out and about in the backyard!

Not only that, but the street sweeper was out in town!

Saturday's Critters

We've settled into the beginnings of winter. 🍁Fall chores 2023 are done! Nov. 21st I had to shovel snow. The next things I have to think about, is where to set the trailcam that sits on a tripod. Once the ground freezes, there is no moving it.

It is fun seeing tracks in the snow and on the frozen ground.

I may have been wrong about Pickles. I have seen a doe around him, who is likely his mother. That makes me happy. He was happy I split the pumpkins for him.

The cardinal is still fighting that strange one he sees in the window.

A/C, ever on the watch, wrote about having bird baths out, and the birds are susceptible to the cold when wet. I must say that I don't see them bathing in winter. They don't have the problems with dust and mites. They sure love to have a drink, though.

The fisher was happy to take one of the three apples JB threw out.

I've moved the trailcam away from the neglected deer scrape, but the turkeys ambled to and fro.

The beauty of having two cameras along a trail. I caught him twice. He wasn't interested in the pumpkin.

Bear Nov. 17 from Jennifer Jilks on Vimeo.

The doe was more interested in the camera than the deer scrape. This is why I moved the camera.

I harvested the pumpkin seeds, then took the pumpkin shell down to the trailcam. It was interesting that few of the critters liked it. The bear just waltzed past a sniff. It'll be another story when the snow falls!

While the bear eschewed the pumpkin, Butch did, but the deer like it. Coyote decided to pee near it.

We are saying farewell to the ducks, geese, and feathered friends, as they gather in flocks to fly south.

Saturday's Critters

 The trail cam tales!

It is lovely seeing them in the daytime on the trailcam. We seldom see them near the house. This was from 2019.

This is from the past week:

We haven't seen much of the turkeys, but here they go along the cedar corridor.

The pullets sure have grown over the summer.

They are funny creatures!

Deer and turkeys

Our Ottawa kids are doing well. Caitlin and Isabelle went to the Carp Farmers Market on the weekend. They had some feijoada for lunch. It is a Portuguese meal, meat, beans and pork stew. What a bright sunny day and a bright sunny pair!

We've still a few leaves.

Sunday, in the light rain, I covered the water fountain. The one light is on for a pagan festival. Yes, that's it! This morning it was 2 C., and the lights in the dark are lovely to see.

Sunday, we had a pair of deer wander through, eating weeds and sapling leaves.

JB got set up for his football game Sunday afternoon.

We've still a few leaves, and the petunias are hanging in.

I gave up frogging. They are just too jumpy. I'm going to leave them for a few days. Or give up. It could go either way! 😜

In the afternoon, the turkeys ambled by. Caitlin thinks that they know Thanksgiving is over!

Not great shots through the windows, but they were fun to see.

I'll have to go down to the trailcams and see how far they went.

I put out our turkey carcass, and it was cleaned up quite quickly.
