Do you like online auctions?

I do. They give me ideas, at least. This one came up for sale. Sadly, I didn't win the auction. I went to bed early. I haven't been to an auction in ages. I thought this a perfect piece!

I had a whim about replacing a cupboard, you see. This piece was built by the previous owner of the house. I want some storage, however. The space is about 35" x 35".
I thought about replacing the above shelving, with my bedside table. This space is 40", but that means finding a new table for the bedroom.

Off we went. First stop Smiths Falls.

Next, we went to this spot. Two guys walked in. "Oooh," said one. "I love that old smell. These are antiques."
The other guy said, "Yeah, the smell of mold!"
The clerk at the cash registered indignation. The funny thing was, when the dude passed me, all I could smell was cigarette smoke!

I like looking at antiques. They speak of a difference time.

A washstand might be the thing, but I'm not sure!

OK, next destination, off to Franktown. There are two antique shops there. Here are the photos from the first one. We wiped our shoes, it was a dry day. She watched JB walk in and asked if he had wiped his shoes. It was insulting. We will never go back.

The signage was horrid. "Don't touch this,"
"Ask for help if you want to open this."
It was creepy. As another couple passed us as we left, I said, "Make sure you wipe your feet. Mom is in there!"
It was crowded, as well. Just too many pieces.

Next stop, we pulled in the back parking for Revival. Two cars were there. Walked around to the front. The signage said they were open Sat. 10 - 4:00. Door locked, we walked out to the back. Someone was emptying her car. She said that the owners weren't back yet. It'll open next week.

It is an old church, converted to an antique store.

Next stop was Carleton Place. We looked through another store. I spotted this same table!

This place was only open on Wednesdays! This was Balderson.

Now, I have to rethink the project! Weigh my options...

Retail therapy!

This now holds my bell collection.
It's been a tough week, between one thing and another. Everyone's kind wishes, at the euthanasia of Sady, have been sweet and kind. I thank you.

After my client cancelled my visit last week, I had the afternoon off and needed something to do!  I decided on some retail therapy on the way home. Sorry, kids, there goes the LOC, and the family fortune!

Indoor shopping was retail therapy at Cliff's Rideau Antiques, in his cold barn! I visit from time-to-time. His place is epic. You can tell by the photos. We took the kids in 2013!

I settled on a few end tables, as well as another student desk/chair, and a secretary desk. You can see how they were tucked into nooks and crannies in his barn.

I tidied up the basement play area for my grandchildren, where they play.
Josephine (gr. 2) has put sticky notes on the old desk. We'll see if they like the new on when they next come over for a sleepover!
The girls love the student desk.
Before Isabelle (4) was in JK
she loved playing school.
They continue to like this spot in the house.
Isn't it pretty?
The clock on the wall is  a
cross-stitched picture of birds.
My late mother made it from a kit.

Dontcha love antique shows????

July 2nd, twice we bumbled into the town of Perth.
I grabbed a shot of this home.

I love the old buildings of Perth. This looks just like the building across the road from my house on Walker Ave., Toronto, where I grew up as a kid. Mom and Dada lived in the house, having bought it from a relative, from 1950 - 1990.

Summerhill subway station - I remember it well.

Our house was much less than this. This Perth home, as well as the old one I'm thinking of in Toronto, was made into apartments.

It was torn down in the 70s to build town homes.
Our house still stands, sold to a single woman, to have the money to build a home in Muskoka for Mom and Dad upon their retirement.
Both worked from the ages of 15, when their respective father's died, until they were 66 years old.

Enough nostalgia...

Once for the Perth Kilt Run 2011, but earlier in the morning we went to the legion to see the antique show.
The slide show is below. Marvellous pieces indoors and outside.

Furniture hunting - shop till you drop!

I love auctions, and flea markets.

In the spirit of reduce, reuse, recycle, we haunt auctions and try to pick up pieces that others do not want. Rather like our cats, I suppose!

There are quite a few antique stores around Lanark County.
These marvellous old barns, refurbished buildings, including a new one in Lombardy/Smith's Falls, that used to be a gas station/dealership.

Some of the pieces ARE the worse for wear.

I'm not particularly handy, but it is fun to look.

I love the old knick knacks, even while trying to declutter.

The truly beautiful ones are well above our budget, but lovely to look at.
We've picked up presents for friends, e.g., newspaper of the day featuring the Kennedy Assassination.

The smell of these old pieces are incredible. Tucked away in attics and barns and lofts. The books, too, are amazing.

A new piece?

Beautiful desk, with shelf/drawers below

Three older pieces

Love the old sideboard and highchair!
